The Making of a Country: From Dutch East Indies to Modern-Day Indonesia

This lecture guides the audience to the time when colonization started to reach the shores of the East Indian archipelago when the Europeans, most notably the Iberians and the Dutch sailed there in search of spices, the establishment of the Dutch East India Company, and the beginning of the country of Indonesia in the middle of the twentieth century.
Dr. Yudha Thianto is P. J. Zondervan Chair, Professor of History of Christianity and Reformed Theology, and Chief Academic Officer of Calvin Theological Seminary. He earned his PhD in History of Christianity from Calvin Theological Seminary, focusing on the history and the spread of Calvinism in the seventeenth century. His current research focuses on the history of the establishment of the Reformed church in the East Indies during the time of the Dutch East India Company.
