The 'Final Four' for bizPlan

Gadget Green Solutions, Lasting Bonds, SchoolSupplied and Sherpa make up Calvin's Final Four-the final four business ideas left standing in the school's 2010 bizPlan competition.

The final four teams will present their ideas to a panel of business experts at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 in the Prince Conference Center. The teams are competing for $2,000 in cash prizes to help implement their ideas, and for a chance to represent Calvin at the regional competition in April.

Calvin College is one of seven schools that will select a representative to compete in the regional business competition on April 15, 2010 at Davenport University. The competition is sponsored by the west Michigan colleges and universities group (WMCUG), which is made up of representatives from the business programs at GVSU, Hope, Aquinas, Cornerstone, Davenport, GRCC and Calvin.

"There's a cooperative effort building among area colleges and universities to promote the entrepreneurial mindset of creativity in west Michigan," said Bob Medema, professor of business at Calvin.

WMCUG is that effort. Beginning this coming fall, Medema said that this coalition will hold an "elevator pitch" regional competition. The goal is to help students learn how to effectively generate interest in their ideas in a short amount of time.
