Director of foundation relations Lois Konyndyk was awarded the 2009 William
Spoelhof Lifetime Achievement Award. Konyndyk, who has worked at the college
since 1967, received the honor on Wednesday, June 10 at the college's staff
recognition event.

The award is named for former Calvin College president Dr. William Spoelhof.
It annually recognizes one staff member who best exemplifies the qualities of
dedication, service and performance that marked Dr. Spoelhof's lifelong
affiliation with Calvin.

Prior to joining the development office, Konyndyk spent 23 years teaching in
the Calvin English department. In her current role, Konyndyk oversees the
grant-writing that funds much of the faculty research at Calvin.

Since Konyndyk took on her new role with the college in the early 1990s,
Calvin has received more than $75 million in grants from foundations,
corporations and government sources.

Last year, the college awarded 550 named scholarships worth $2.4 million to
more than 1,200 Calvin students.

"Everything we can raise funds for—and that can be programs, scholarships,
facilities like the Bunker Center, research—is something that students don't
have to pay for. Students get the benefit from great programs and great
facilities and then go out and make their mark on the world. How can I not get
excited about that?" said Konyndyk.

Konyndyk is the eighth staff member in Calvin College history to receive this
award.
