The Calvin nursing department has received full accreditation for the maximum 10 years from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
The college met all four accreditation standards, which include: a clear mission, goals and expected student outcomes; a curriculum that builds upon a foundation of the arts, sciences and humanities; and faculty members who are academically and experientially prepared.
Mary Molewyk Doornbos, chair of the Nursing department at Calvin, says that her department is grateful for this opportunity.
"CCNE accreditation is a mark of excellence that succinctly communicates to prospective employers and graduate schools that Calvin graduates are well prepared to assume roles within their institutions," said Doornbos.
Calvin nursing became an independent program in 2002, operating prior to that as a joint program with Hope College. Calvin now graduates 55-60 new nurses a year.
