GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Anna Kamp was named the AVCA Division III National Player of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The award was announced on Wednesday evening at a pre-national championship banquet at the Prince Conference Center on the campus of Calvin College.
"Anna has had an incredible year and so well-deserving of this award," said Calvin volleyball head coach Dr. Amber Warners. "She is not only a very talented player but also an amazing leader, who has a lot of passion in everything that she does. I'm humbled and honored to not only coach her, but to have her in my life."
A junior from Orland Park, Illinois, Kamp is a graduate of Chicago Christian High School. Kamp is the fifth AVCA National Player of the Year in program history.
Kamp is also the fourth member of her family to receive the honor as oldest sister Rebecca Kamp was the first individual from Calvin to receive the award back in 2011 with Lizzie Kamp receiving the honor in 2012 and Maggie Kamp is 2014.
In the history of NCAA Division III women's volleyball, there has never been four sisters that have all received AVCA National Player of the Year honors. Calvin setter Megan Rietema was the AVCA Division III National Player of the Year in 2013.
This year, Kamp has recorded 458 kills, with 40 assists and 259 digs. She is averaging 4.16 kills-per-set and hitting .281 on the year.
"I feel very honored and blessed to win this award," said Kamp. "I know that without my teammates, family, coaches, and so many others have invested in me along the eay, this wouldn;t be possible. All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you!"
On Tuesday, she was named a first team AVCA Division III All-American for the second-straight year. Already this year, she was also a member of the AVCA Division III Great Lakes All-Region team and named the AVCA Great Lakes Regional Player of the Year.
This year, Kamp claimed the MIAA's Most Valuable Player title and was named to the All-MIAA First Team for the second-straight year after helping Calvin win MIAA regular season title while also capturing the MIAA Tournament title.
During the season, she earned MIAA's Player of the Week twice. She was named to the all-tournament team at Midwest Invitational and at the Trinity Invitational, where was earned MVP honors.
Last weekend, she was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Division III regional tournament held at Illinois Wesleyan. In a five-set victory over Washington University in St. Louis, in the regional quarterfinal, she tallied 18 kills, 17 digs, four service aces and three assists.
At outside hitter, she ranks 17th nationally in total kills (458), 18th in kills-per-set (4.16) and 24th in points-per-set (4.59).
