ALBION, Mich. - The Calvin baseball team claimed a pair of come-from-behind victories at Albion Thursday to claim its first doubleheader sweep of the season.

Calvin took the opener from the Britons 7-4 in a scheduled seven-inning game and then took game two 9-7.

In game one, Calvin trailed 4-2 but rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh. Senior Colton Wolfe (Eaton Rapids, Mich./Eaton Rapids HS) belted a key RBI triple and was brought home two batters later on a sacrifice fly by junior Kyle Houts (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake HS) to tie the game 4-4. With the bases full, sophomore Steven Dogger (Holland, Mich./Holland Calvary HS) roped a two-out, two-run RBI double to give Calvin a 6-4 lead. Dogger then came home on a single by senior Mike Kempton (Edwardsburg, Mich./Edwardsburg HS) to give the Knights a 7-4 lead.

Freshman Trevor VanDuyn (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) then pitched a scoreless bottom half of the seventh to preserve the victory and gain his third save of the season.

Junior Jamie Bristol (Grand Rapids, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) went the 5.1 innings for the Knights. Freshman David Dahms (Darien, Il./Hinsdale South HS) closed out the sixth for the Knights and was awarded the victory to up his season record to 3-0.

Junior Ryan Stewart (Detroit, Mich./Parkway Christian HS) went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Houts and junior Nate DeZwaan (Hamilton, Mich./Holland Christian HS) had two hits each.
In game two, Calvin fell behind 7-4 but again rallied, putting up five runs in the top of the sixth. Calvin held Albion scoreless over the final four frames with VanDuyn coming on again in the ninth to claim his fourth save of the season and his second save of the afternoon.

Calvin's sixth-inning rally was sparked by a lead-off triple by Wolfe - his third of the afternoon. Wolfe later scored on an Albion fielding error. Freshman Josh Sterenberg (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) delivered an RBI single and Stewart drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game 7-7. Kempton then ripped an RBI single to center and DeZwaan hit a sacrifice fly to right that gave the Knights a two-run advantage.

Freshman Mike Kool (Centerville, Mich./Sturgis HS) went the first three innings with sophomore Jimmy Dirksen (Portage, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian HS) tossing the next two. Sophomore Clay Francisco (Delton, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg HS) pitched the seventh and the eighth frames and was credited with the victory to run his season record to 2-2.
Sophomore Jonathan Keane (Brookfield, Wisc./Brookfield Central HS) went 3-for-5 at the plate while Wolfe had two hits - both of which were triples.

"We had great team wins today," said Calvin baseball coach John Rypel. "I thought we received clutch hitting from all parts of our lineup and our bullpen was fantastic."

Now owners of a three-game win streak, the Knights will host the Britons on Saturday in a doubleheader at Calvin with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
