Final MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships Notes;
Calvin Weekly Sports Update Previews Upcoming MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships;
Tiffany Karger Named MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week
MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
On Saturday, the Calvin men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its third consecutive MIAA title, finishing in first place at the league championships with 951.5 points, marking the highest point total in the history of the MIAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Over the course of the four-day competition, Calvin established 12 school records and five MIAA records. The following is a list of the records shattered by the Calvin men's swimming and diving team last week.
800 FREESTYLE RELAY - (Brandon Muma, Mitch Schroder, Max DeYoung, Andrew Kasper) - Established a new Calvin and MIAA record time of 6:43.04. The time broke the previous school and MIAA record of 6:45.68 set in 2014 by Calvin.
200 FREESTYLE STYLE - (Brandon Muma, Mitch Schroder, Eli Holstege and Jared Britton) - Established a new school record with a time of 1:22.06, breaking the previous mark of 1:22.93 set in 2015.
500 FREESTYLE -- Freshman Andrew Kasper clocked a time of 4:30.59, breaking the previous school record of 4:34.00 set by Aaron Venema in 2014 and the prior MIAA record of 4:31.83 set by Paul Krone of Albion in 2007.
200 IM -- Junior Brett Stoughton clocked a time of 1:52.55 to break the previous Calvin record time of 1:53.62 set by Peter Boumgarden in 2004.
50 FREESTYLE - Freshman Jared Britton clocked a time of 20.56 to shatter the previous Calvin record of 20.96 set by Andrew Resseguie in 2007.
400 MEDLEY RELAY -- (Skyler Fish, Johnson Cochran, Brett Stoughton, Jared Britton) - Established a new school and MIAA record with a time of 3:18.43. The time broke the previous school record of 3:20.21 set in 2015 aned the MIAA record of 3:19.01 set by Kalamazoo in 2009.
200 MEDLEY RELAY -- (Ben Holstege, Johnson Cochran, Brandon Muma, Jared Britton) - Established a new school and MIAA record time of 1:30.51, breaking the previous Calvin mark of 1:31.54 set in 2015 and the MIAA record of 1:30.51 set by Kalamazoo in 2009.
400 IM - Senior Caleb Meindertsma clocked a time of 15:42.35 to set new school and MIAA records, breaking his own school record of 15:51.30 and the previous MIAA record of 15:51.00 set by Josh Grabijas of Hope in 2012.
200 BACKSTROKE -- Sophomore Skyler Fish broke his own school record with a time of 1:50.86. His previous school record time was 1:51.97 set last year.
200 BUTTERFLY -- Brett Stoughton clocked a time of 1:51.28, breaking his own school record time of 1:52.40 set in 2015.
400 FREESTYLE RELAY -- (Brandon Muma, Mitch Schroder, Andrew Kasper, Jared Britton) - Established a school record time of 3:01.63, shattering the previous school mark of 3:03.27.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
On Saturday, the Calvin women's swimming and diving team wrapped up its 12th consecutive MIAA title, finishing in first place at the league championships with 786.5 points.
Over the course of the four-day competition, Calvin established three school records and four MIAA records. The following is a list of the records shattered by the Calvin women's swimming and diving team last week.
800 FREESTYLE RELAY -- (Megan Schroder, Anna Serino, Kendall Murphy and Abby Van Harn) - Established new school and MIAA records with a time of 7:31.21. The time broke the previous school record of 7:33.22 set in 2007 and the previous MIAA record of 7:39.12 set in 2009.
200 FREESTYLE RELAY -- (Megan Schroder, Rachel Mattson, Adrienne Wesselius, Abby Van Harn) - Established a new MIAA record with a time of 1:34.24, breaking the previous league mark of 1:34.39 set by Calvin in 2007.
200 BACKSTROKE -- Megan Schroder clocked a time of 2:06.52 to break the previous school record time of 2:02.62 set by Erika Waugh in 2006.
100 FREESTYLE -- Abby Van Harn - Van Harn established a new school and MIAA record with a time of 50.85. The previous MIAA and Calvin record was 50.85, set by Becky Weima in 2006.
400 FREESTYLE RELAY -- (Megan Schroder, Rachel Mattson, Anna Serino, Abby Van Harn) - Established a new MIAA record time of 3:28.81, breaking the previous league mark of 3:29.09 set by Hope in 2009.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
The Calvin men's and women's indoor track and field teams are preparing to compete at the first-ever MIAA Indoor Championships this Saturday at Trine University.
Field events will begin at 9:30 a.m. with events on the track set to begin at noon. Meet information can be found on the Trine website at: http://trinethunder.com/sports/mtrack/miaa_championship16

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin guard Tiffany Karger its Player of the Week in women's basketball for games played through February 21. Karger, a senior from Cedar Springs, Michigan, averaged 14 points per game last week as the Knights recorded victories over Alma and No. 3 Hope.
She started the week recording 12 points in the win over Alma, last Wednesday. She also recorded a rebound, an assist and a steal against the Scots.
Karger played a key role in the upset over the third-ranked Flying Dutch on Saturday. Behind a career-best five three-point baskets, she finished the game with 16 points, one short of her career-high. The Calvin senior also recorded a block in the win.
Karger is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
The Knights return to action this Friday as they face Trine in the MIAA Tournament at 1 p.m. in Holland, Michigan. If the Knights win they would go on to face the winner of the Friday semifinal between Hope and Olivet. The championship final is slated for 5 p.m. on Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Calvin salutes seniors Austin Parks<http://calvinknights.com/sports/mbkb/2015-16/bios/parks_austin_2w6q> and Jordan Daley<http://calvinknights.com/sports/mbkb/2015-16/bios/daley_jordan_5sy8> who recently completed stellar four-year careers with the Calvin men's basketball program. Over the last four years, Parks and Daley helped the Knights claim a pair of MIAA titles, three MIAA Tournament crowns and three trips to the NCAA III Tournament.
In addition to their success on the hardcourt, Parks and Daley has both been standouts in the classroom. This summer, Parks was named to the NABC Honors Court for academic achievement. A regular member of the Calvin Dean's List and MIAA Academic Honor Roll, Parks is majoring in business with concentrations in marketing and human resource management. He will graduate this May and enter the work force after graduation.
Daley is majoring in psychology while holding minors in Spanish and kinesiology. Earlier this month, he was named to the CoSIDA Acadedemic All-District 6 team and was a member of the NABC Honors Court this summer. Daley is currently serving an internship with the Calvin Center for Social Research. After graduating this spring, he plans to continue to work for a research institute and later pursue graduate school.
