Calvin Swimming and Diving Teams/Individuals Receive CSCAA Academic Honors

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

The Calvin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams have once again received academic awards from the College Swim Coaches Association of America. Both teams have received the CSCAA Team Scholar All-America Award.
The Team Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester/term and in the semester/term of the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).
The Calvin women's team recorded a 3.43 grade point average during the recently completed spring semester. The Calvin men's team recorded a 3.23 grade point average during the spring semester.
Individually on the women's side, Calvin senior Erika Waugh (Berne, Ind./South Adams HS) and freshman Sarah Bradley (Wheaton, IL/Wheaton North HS) were named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans while junior Alayna Gallegos (Lakeville, MN/, sophomore Nicole Karl (Riverview/Riverview HS) and freshmen Rachel Mattson (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Huron HS) and Abby VanHarn (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) were named CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans.

On the men's side, sophomore Brett Stoughton (Centerville, Ind./Centerville HS) was named a CSCAA Scholar All-American for the second straight year. Sophomore Dirk Tanis (Holland/Holland Christian HS) and freshmen Michael Moentmann (Solon, OH/Solon HS) and Tanner Vincent (Novi/Novi HS) were named CSCAA Honorable Mention All-Americans.
The Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved a cumulative, or term grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the academic term coinciding with their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CCCAA Swimming and Diving Championships and have qualified for and competed at the Championship. Those who received honorable mention status honorable mention status have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.
