MEN'S BASKETBALL

SALEM, Va. - Calvin College senior Jordan Brink had a memorable weekend. A senior from Dyer, Indiana, Brink was named to the D3hoops.com All-America first team Saturday afternoon moments after scoring 15 points in the NABC Division III Reeses' All-Star Game at the Salem Civic Center.

The all-star game served as the prelude to the NCAA III Championship game between Augustana and Wisconsin-Steven Point played later that day. Brink represented the East Division III All-Star Team. All 15 of Brink's 15 points came from beyond the three-point line as he was 5-of-13 from three-point range.

A graduate of Illiana Christian High School, Brink was joined on the D3hoops.com All-America first team by Quardell Young of UW-Whitewater, Aaron Walton-Moss of Cabrini Gerry Wixted of Dickinson and Joey Flannery of Babson.

Earlier in the week, Brink was named to the NABC Division III All-America second team and was named the D3hoops.com Great Lakes Region Player of the Year.

This year, Brink averaged 18.3 points and 5.6 rebounds a game while connecting on 89.5 percent of his free throw attempts and 43.6 percent of his three-point field goal attempts.
He concluded his career as Calvin's all-time leader in free throw percentage, converting 92.5 percent of his charity tosses.
He finished eighth on the Calvin career scoring list (1,497) points, fifth in career three-point field goals (208) and fourth in career assists (282).
Earlier this month, he was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player and landed a spot on the All-MIAA first team.
In addition, he was named to the Division III Capital One Academic All-America second team last month. Brink is a double-major in business marketing and sports management.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Calvin College senior Breanna Verkaik has been named a D3hoops.com All-American. A native of Holland and a graduate of Holland Christian High School, Verkaik was named to the D3hoops.com All-America fourth team Saturday afternoon.

The award marks the second All-America recognition of the week for Verkaik. On Thursday night, Verkaik was named a WBCA Division III Honorable Mention All-American.

This year, Verkaik was the 2015 MIAA Most Valuable Player and was a member of the 2015 All-MIAA first team as well as the D3hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region first team. She averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game while blocking 38 shots and collecting 38 steals.
She also connected on 48.1 percent of her three-point field goal attempts which leads the nation heading into the final weekend of the NCAA III women's basketball season. Verkaik also shot 86.8 percent from the free throw line.
She helped the Calvin women's basketball team finish 30-1 overall while reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA III Tournament. She also helped the Knights capture MIAA regular season and MIAA Tournament titles.

Verkaik finished her career with 1,067 points to finish 13th on the Calvin career scoring list.

Verkaik is the second member of her family to receive D3hoops.com All-America honors as older sister Carissa Verkaik was a four-time D3hoops.com All-American from 2010-to-2013.
MORE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Calvin College women's basketball coach John Ross has been named the Division III Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The award was announced last weekend at the NCAA III Final Four banquet in Grand Rapids.

In addition, Ross has been named a finalist for the WBCA Division III National Coach of the Year award which will be announced on April 6 at the WBCA awards show at the site of the NCAA I Women's Basketball Finals.

A native of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Ross led the Calvin women's basketball team to a school record 30-win campaign this season as the Knights finished 30-1 overall and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA III Tournament. Included in the season were MIAA regular season and MIAA Tournament titles.

Calvin finished the MIAA season with a 16-0 conference record and then defeated Olivet and Hope to win the four-team MIAA Tournament.

Under his guidance, the Calvin women's basketball team established a new school record for consecutive victories (30), breaking the previous record of 22 set by Calvin's 1995-96 team.

Earlier in the week, Ross was also named the D3hoops.com Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year.

A 1990 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Ross recently completed his 12th year at Calvin and has a career won-loss record of 279-61 for a winning percentage of 821.

MEN'S GOLF

ORLANDO, FL - The Calvin men's golf team took second at the Luther College Triangular on Friday at the Orange County National.

Calvin fired a team score of 296. Farmingdale State edged the Knights for first place honors with a round of 295 while Luther was third at 304.

The highlight of the day came from freshman Ben VanScoyk who fired a medalist round of 68. VanScoyk opened the round with an eagle and a birdie and spent most of the day 5 under. VanScoyk suffered a tough break on the 18th hole when he ripped a drive down the center of the fairway that fell into a grass bunker. That drive later led to one of his few bogeys on the day.

Freshman John VanNoord was the second man for Calvin with a round of 73 while junior Justin Crow had a 76, freshman Matthew Lumbantoruan had a 79 and freshman Sean Behrens an 81.
