CALVIN KNIGHT REPORT FOR JUNE 4, 2014 (Part Two)
Calvin Men's Lacrosse Coach Stepping Down

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Joel Kamstra is stepping down as the head coach of the Calvin men's lacrosse program.

The Calvin men's lacrosse head coaching position will become a full-time position within the Calvin Kinesiology Department next year after being a part-time position the last two years. Kamstra is stepping down because he will not be able to serve as head coach in a full-time capacity.
"I am extremely grateful for my time spent coaching at Calvin over the past five years - the institution and its students are second to none," said Kamstra. "I've been blessed by those I have been able to coach and they have had a lasting impact on myself and this school. I look forward to being a fervent supporter of the program for many years to come and I am very excited with the emphasis Calvin has placed on the success of this program by elevating this to a full-time position."

A 2007 Calvin College graduate, Kamstra has served as the school's first varsity men's lacrosse coach. Kamstra took over as head coach when the program was in its final year of club status during the 2011-12 academic year and also served as assistant coach in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons. He then guided the Knights the past two years as a varsity program.

Dr. Jim Timmer Jr., the Director of Men's Athletics at Calvin, expressed gratitude for Kamstra's efforts. "We are grateful for Joel's hard work and dedication over the last five years including two years as a varsity coach," said Timmer. "He has been a pioneer for the program and has helped lay the groundwork for the future."

According to Timmer, a search for a replacement as head coach will begin immediately.
