Swimming and Diving Teams Compete at U. of Chicago Invitational
 
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
 
CHICAGO, IL - The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the University of Chicago Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Calvin women took second with 777 points while the Calvin men took third with 607.5 points.
 
Highlights for the Calvin women included:
 
*Senior Samantha Klaasen (Holland/Holland Christian HS) taking home invitational titles on the one-meter board (444.30 points) and three-meter board (442.95 points). She was part of a strong Calvin diving contingent as freshman Lizz Roth (Brighton/Brighton HS) was third on the three-meter board (395.60) and third on the one-meter board (365.90) while sophomore Rebecca Mumby (Spring Lake/Spring Lake HS) was fourth on the three-meter board (326.35) and fourth on the one-meter board (358.18).
 
*Senior Stephanie Fox (Kentwood/Home Schooled) winning the 100 freestyle (54.66) and taking fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:18.14).
 
*Freshman Michaela Rookus (Hudsonville/Hudsonville HS) taking second in the 200 IM (2:13.36), 100 breaststroke (1:08.38) and 100 freestyle (54.74).
 
*Senior Rachel Colasurdo (Chesapeake, VA/Home Schooled) taking second in the 100 butterfly (1:02.79).
 
*Senior Elizabeth Counsell (Indianapolis, IN/Heritage Christian HS)
 
*Sophomore Kathryn Wrobel (Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View HS) taking second in the 200 freestyle (1:59.84) and 1650 freestyle (18:03.58) while placing fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:19.91).
 
*Senior Kristy Kinzer (Fort Wayne, IN/Homestead HS) placing third in the 100 backstroke (1:02.39) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:03.87).
 
*Sophomore Erika Waugh (Berne, IN/South Adams HS) placing fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:14.58).
 
*Calvin's 400 freestyle relay of Fox, Colasurdo, Rookus and Wrobel taking first in a time of 3:40.02.
 
*Calvin's 800 freestyle relay team of Fox, Rookus, Counsell and Wrobel winning in a time of 8:02.65.
 
Highlights from the men's competition included:
 
*Senior Mark Rushlow (Goshen, IN/Northridge, H)S winning the 100 butterfly (53.11).
 
*Freshman Johnson Cochran (Mount Vernon, OH/Mount Vernon HS) taking second in the 100 breaststroke (58.70) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.20).
 
*Junior Andrew Mitchell (Iron Mountain, MI/Kingsfor HS) taking third in the 100 backstroke (55.38).
 
*Senior Mathias Bares (Holland/West Ottawa HS) taking third in the 1650 freestyle (16:56.30).
 
*Junior Peter Johnson (Oak Forest, IL/Home Schooled) taking fourth in the 100 butterfly (54.08).
 
*Freshman Caleb Meindertsma (Annondale, VA/Trinity Christian HS) taking fifth in the 500 freestyle (4:56.38) and sixth in the 400 IM (4:22.14).
 
*Senior Stephen Kraft (Warsaw, IN/Home Schooled) taking fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.71).
 
Both Calvin teams are back in action on Friday, competing in dual meet action at Notre Dame with the Calvin women competing against Saint Mary's and Kalamazoo while the Calvin men will go head-to-head with Kalamazoo. That action is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
