SPECIAL CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR APRIL 28, 2012

CALVIN SPRING CLASSIC 5K RECAP
(written by Calvin Alumni Relations Director Mike Van Denend)

The 2012 edition of the Calvin Spring Classic 5k and Karen Muyskens Fun Run drew a record field of 1,317 participants and resulted in Gretchen Braymer of achieving the title as women's overall champion and Alex Wrobel taking the men's overall crown.

Doubling the fun is that Braymer and Wrobel will be getting married this summer; both are Calvin College cross country & track and field alumni.
The 22nd annual event took place under cool and cloudy weather--but fine running conditions for the participants.

Braymer took first place among women with a time of 18:41, while Wrobel ran the 3.1-mile course in 16:04. The school challenge competition was won by Grand Rapids Christian (number of registrations), and the corporate challenge winner was Hoekstra Landscape Management (competitive finish scoring).

The Calvin Spring Classic is a TAC-certified run entirely on Calvin College campus roads, starting and ending near the Prince Conference Center and taking runners under the East Beltline, through campus roadways to East Paris Avenue and back. The Karen Muyskens Family Fun Run is named after the late Dr. Karen Muyskens, a Calvin chemistry professor.

Classic Race Management handled the timing; see www.classicrace.com for full results.
