Jill Thomas Named MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week;
MIAA All-Sports Standings Update Through Winter Sports Season;
Women's Swimming and Diving Receives Academic Award from College Swim Coaches

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
For the first time in her career, Calvin guard Jill Thomas has been named MIAA
Player of the Week in women's basketball.
A senior from Grand Rapids (West Catholic HS), scored 13 points, including
three 3-ponters, as she helped the Knights defeat Hope, 65-43, in the
championship game of the MIAA tournament on Saturday.
Thomas also had four assists and three steals in a 78-50 tournament semifinal
win over Saint Mary’s.
MIAA ALL-SPORTS STANDINGS UPDATE
With the MIAA winter sports season recently completed, the most recent MIAA
All-Sports standings have been announced.
In the MIAA Commissioner's Cup standings which includes the cumualtive point
totals of both the men's and women's teams, Calvin is in second place with 121
points, trailing Hope which has 136 points. In the MIAA Men's All-Sports
Standings, Calvin is also in second place behind Hope. Calvin has 49 points
while Hope has 64. In the MIAA Women's All-Sports Standings, Calvin and Hope
are tied for first place with 72 points each.
• The MIAA Commissioner’s Cup award is based on the cumulative performance of
each member school in the league's 18 sports for men and women.
• The final Commissioner’s Cup standings is determined on the basis of each
college's standings in eight of nine sports for men and eight of nine sports
for women. All eight fall sports and four winter sports are included in the
current tabulation.
• Hope won the 2010-11 Commissioner’s Cup.
• The Commissioner’s Cup (All-Sports Award) has been presented since 1934-35.
Hope has won the award 33 times, followed by Albion 14, Kalamazoo 13, Calvin 9
& Alma 5.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
The Calvin College women's swimming and diving team has received the Scholar
All America Team citation from the College Swimming Coaches Association of
America for the 2011 fall semester.
To be eligible, a team needed to maintain a minimum cumulative grade point
average of 3.0 on a four-point scale. The Calvin women's team recorded a 3.23
grade point average.
The Knights were one of four five MIAA women's teams to receive the award as
Albion, Hope, Kalamazoo and Olivet were also so honored.
The Calvin women's swimming and diving team is coached by Dan Gelderloos.
