Four Members of Calvin Men's Soccer Team Receive NSCAA DIVISION III All-Central Region Honors

Four members of the Calvin men's soccer team have received Division III All-Central Region honors as named by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
 
Named to the All-Central Region first team from Calvin are senior defender Miles Colago and sophomore forward Zach Willis. Named to the second team is junior midfielder Nick Holtrop while junior defender Dan Nederhoed has been named to the third team.
 
A native of Anoka, Minnesota (Anoka HS), Colago is receiving All-Central Region honors for the second straight year. Last fall he was named to the second team. Colago finished the 2011 season with three goals and six points. He was also part of a Calvin defense that recorded 13 shutouts during the 2011 season and was named to the All-MIAA first team for a second straight year.
 
Willis is from Grandville and is a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School. Willis led Calvin in scoring this year with 39 points on the strength of 14 goals and 11 assists. He recorded five multiple-goal games during the season and notched at least one point in 15 of Calvin's 27 games. He was also named to the All-MIAA first team this fall and led the league in scoring with nine goals, eight assists and 26 points in 14 conference games.
 
Holtrop and Nederhoed were also named to the All-MIAA first team this fall. Holtrop hails from Hudsonville and is a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School. A strong two-way player, Holtrop slowed the opposing team's attack with strong defensive play while also providing offensive pop of his own. Holtrop had four goals, two assists and 10 points this year with three of his goals proving to be game-winning goals. Holtrop scored the game-winning goal in a memorable 1-0 win at at Hope in mid-October as well as the game-winning score in a 1-0 first round NCAA III Tournament victory over Carthage. In addition, he also had the game-winner in a 4-0 win at Olivet, ripping in a full-volley blast from distance. Finally, he scored the game-winning penalty kick in a penalty kick shootout win over the University of Redlands in the third round of the NCAA III Tournament.
 
Nederhoed is from Kentwood and is a graduate of East Kentwood High School. An outside defensive back. Nederhoed played a key role in a Calvin defense that allowed only 23 goals in 27 games and recorded 13 shutouts. He also filled a spot in Calvin's offensive attack, often moving through the flanks with dangerous rushes to the goal. During the season, he was credited with three assists. At the NCAA III Final Four in San Antonio, Texas, he was named to the all-tournament team.
 
Calvin finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 19-6-2. The Knights captured their fifth straight MIAA regular season title and later earned a bid to the NCAA III Tournament where they advanced all the way to the national championship game, doing so for the second time in three years. The Knights were under the direction of head coach Chris Hughes.
