Basketball Teams Picked Second In Pre-Season MIAA Coaches' Poll;
Women's Soccer Players Receive ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV
Honors

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Calvin men’s basketball team was picked to finish second in the
pre-season MIAA coaches’ poll released earlier today. The Knights received
three of a possible seven first place votes while Hope received five first
place votes. Coaches can not vote for their own team.

A year ago, Calvin finished second in the MIAA regular season standings with a
10-4 conference record. Calvin later captured the MIAA Tournament title and
advanced to the second round of the NCAA III Tournament, finishing the year
with an overall record of 19-10.

Calvin is scheduled to open its season November 16 when it hosts Grace Bible
College in a first round game of the Calvin Tip-Off Tournament.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The Calvin women’s basketball team was been picked to finish second in the
MIAA pre-season coaches’ poll released earlier today. Hope College was picked
to win the league championship as the Flying Dutch received six of a possible
eight first place votes. Calvin received three first place votes. Coaches can
not vote for their own team.

Calvin is scheduled to open its season on November 16 when it competes at the
Franklin Savings Tip-Off Tournament hosted by the College of Mount St. Joseph.

WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS RECEIVE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS FROM ESPN THE
MAGAZINE

Two members of the Calvin women's soccer team have received ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District IV honors as junior defensive back Juliana Litts and
sophomore midfielder Natalie Veurink have been named to the Academic
All-District IV third team.

The college division of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program ®)
includes NCAA II, NCAA III and NAIA schools. The Academic All-District and
All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Director's
Association of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for nomination, an individual
must be a starter or a key reserve with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20.

Litts is from Alexandria, Virginia. She is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High
School. Litts has been a three-year starter on defense on a Calvin team that
has posted 41 shutouts during that span. A two-time member of the MIAA Academic
Honor Roll, Litts carries a 3.78 grade point average while majoring in Spanish
and Speech Pathology.

Veurink is from Spring Lake and is a graduate of Western Michigan Christian
High School. As a freshman, Veurink came off the bench as a forward and scored
six goals along with two assists. This year she has moved into a starting spot
in the midfield and has scored six goals along with an assist for 13 points.
She carries a 3.83 grade point average while majoring in Nursing and Spanish.

Calvin is currently 15-3-1 overall and ranked 18th nationally in the latest
Division III Top-25 Coaches' poll. Calvin will host Albion on Saturday at noon
in the MIAA Tournament Championship game with the winner advancing to the NCAA
III Tournament.
