WOMEN'S TENNIS
Calvin 8, Olivet 1
at Olivet

LANSING -- Calvin upped its season mark to 2-2 and its conference record to 2-0
with an 8-1 victory at Olivet Wednesday afternoon. Calvin returns to action on
Saturday when it opens up its spring trip against Mills College (CA) in a match
in Orlando, Florida.

MEN'S TENNIS
Aquinas 5, Calvin 4
at Calvin

Calvin nearly pulled an upset victory over nationally-ranked Aquinas College
Wednesday afternoon at the MVP Sportsplex in Kentwood, before falling 5-4.
Aquinas (11-1) entered Wednesday's match ranked 17th in the latest NAIA
rankings and riding the wave of a 7-2 victory over Division II Ferris State
just two days prior.

Calvin (0-1) and Aquinas split the six singles points but the Saints were able
to take two of the three doubles points to pull out the win.

Picking up singles victories for Calvin were senior Rafael Siebenschein
(Lynden, WA), sophomore Steve DeMaagd (Calvin Christian HS) and senior Dan
Volkema (Holland Christian HS). Calvin's #3 doubles team of Volkema and senior
David Sneller (Sheboygan, WI) also picked up a win.

Calvin returns to action on Monday when it takes on Illinois Wesleyan in a
match in Orlando, Florida. The match will be the first of five spring break
matches for the Knights.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Calvin College women's basketball coach John Ross has picked up his second
Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year Award in as many days. Ross has been
honored as the Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year by D3hoops.com, a day after
receiving the same award from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association of
America.

In addition, Calvin senior Lisa Winkle (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids South
Christian HS) has been named Great Lakes Regional Player of the Year by
Dhoops.com. Winkle averaged 14.4 points and 10.1 rebounds a game. Winkle also
landed a spot on the D3hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region first team. Also
receiving all-region honors from D3hoops.com is sophomore teammate Marcia
Harris (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS). Harris averaged 15.8 points
and 5.5 rebounds a game while connecting on 58.2 percent of her field goal
attempts.

The Calvin women's basketball team recently finished the 2006-07 season with a
28-3 record, advancing all the way to the national quarterfinals.

Harris and Winkle are two of four players from the MIAA to receive Great Lakes
All-Region honors from D3hoops.com as Olivet senior Audrey Graham has been
named to the first team while Saint Mary's junior Allison Kessler has been
named to the second team.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

For the second consecutive year, Calvin College sophomore Caleb Veldhouse has
been named to the D3hoops.com Great Lakes All-Region third team. A native of
Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Veldhouse averaged 15.0 points and 2.2 assists
per-game this year. A graduate of Sioux Falls Christian High School, Veldhouse
helped the Calvin men's basketball team finish 19-10 overall and reach the NCAA
III Tournament for the fourth straight year.

Veldhouse is one of two MIAA players on this year's D3hoops.com Great Lakes
All-Region list as Hope senior Stephen Cramer was named to the first team.
