CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR OCTOBER 26, 2003

CALVIN SOCCER PLAYERS RECEIVE MIAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES

A pair of Calvin College soccer players have received MIAA Player of the Week
    accolades.

In men's soccer, sophomore Kurt Visker of Grand Rapids Christian High School
has been named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in his
career. In women's soccer, Calvin sophomore Noell Berghuis has been named MIAA
Offensive Player of the Week for the first time.

A sweeper back, Visker helped key a pair of Calvin shutout victories last week
as the Knights defeated Kalamazoo 1-0 and Albion 2-0. The pair of victories
enabled the regionally-ranked Knights to move to the top of the MIAA standings
as Calvin is now 7-1-0 in the MIAA and 12-4 overall.

In the 1-0 win over Kalamazoo, Visker also accounted for the only goal of the
game as he ripped a blast from 35 yards on a direct kick that struck the inside
of the far post and bounced in with just 17:02 left in regulation. The goal
was the first of the year for Visker who hails from Grand Rapids. The Calvin
men's soccer team now owns an eight-game win streak and returns to action on
Tuesday when it travels to Adrian for a 3:00 p.m. match.

Berghuis also helped the Calvin women's soccer team gain conference victories
over Kalamazoo and Albion last week as the Knights topped Kalamazoo 2-1 on
Tuesday and Albion 4-1 on Saturday. In the victory over Kalamazoo Tuesday,
Berghuis assisted on Calvin's first goal of the game and was a controlling
prescence in midfield throughout the contest. In Saturday's win over Albion,
Berghuis notched a goal and an assist as the Knights gained their ninth
straight win including eighth straight in conference play. In addition, Calvin
reached the double-digit plateau in victories for the 15th straight year,
improving to 10-4-1 overall and to 8-2-1 in the MIAA with the win.

The Calvin women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday when it journeys
    to Olivet for a 3:00 p.m. match.
