Tricia Dyk Repeats as MIAA's Most Valuable Player In Women' Soccer
Seven Calvin Players Named to All-MIAA Teams

GRAND RAPIDS - For the second consecutive year, Tricia Dyk has been named the
MIAA's Most Valuable Player in women's soccer. Dyk is the third individual in
Calvin women's soccer history to receive MIAA MVP honors. She is also the
fourth Calvin athlete to receive MIAA MVP honors this fall as Joel Veldhouse
(men's soccer), Hendrik Kok (men's cross country) and Jessie Lair (women's cross
country) have also been so honored.

A senior forward at Calvin, Dyk led the MIAA in scoring this fall with 44
points on the strength of 17 goals and 10 assists. A native of Grand Haven and
a graduate of Western Michigan Christian High School, Dyk received MIAA Player
of the Week honors twice during the year. In addition, Dyk has been named to
the All-MIAA first team for the fourth straight year, becoming just the seventh
player in MIAA women's soccer history to achieve the feat four consecutive
years. She is also the third player from Calvin to receive All-MIAA first team
honors four straight years as her sister, Tara Dyk-Wegner, accomplished the feat
from 1995-1998 as did Cara Jansen during the same four-year span. Overall, Dyk
picked up 19 goals and collected 14 assists this fall, matching a Calvin
single-season record for assists. She also moved into a second place tie with
sister Tara Dyk-Wegner on the MIAA career points list with 146 points.

Dyk is one of seven players from Calvin to receive All-MIAA accolades as
seniors Stephanie Kooima and Lindy VanHaitsma along with sophomore Kristen
Carlson were named to the first team while junior Dana Haan, sophomore Linnea
Butler and freshman Noell Berghuis were named to the second team.

Kooima is from Hudsonville and is a graduate of Unity Christian High School. A
fifth-year senior midfielder, Kooima bounced back from injuries earlier in her
career to post a sterling senior campaign this fall with six goals and two
assists. VanHaitsma is from Grand Rapids and is a graduate of Grand Rapids
Christian. Also a midfielder, VanHaitsma picked up three goals and two assists
this year including a game winning goal in a 4-3 sudden-death overtime win at
eventual MIAA champion Albion. A sweeper on defense, Carlson hails from
Encinitas, California. She is a graduate of Santa Fe Christian High School.
Carlson picked up one goal on the season and anchored a Calvin defense that
    posted six shutout victories.

Butler is from Shelton, Washington. She is a graduate of Capital High School.
A marking back, Butler picked up two assists this fall and was often responsible
for marking the opposition's top scoring threat. Haan is a native of Lynden,
Washington, and a graduate of Lynden Christian High School. A forward, Haan
scored two goals and recorded four assists this fall for a total of eight
points. Berghuis is from Hudsonville and is a graduate of Unity Christian High
School. A midfielder, Berghuis came up with 14 points this fall on the strength
of four goals and six assists despite missing the final six games of the year
with an injury. In conference play, Berghuis finished tied for third in the
MIAA in assists with five assists in nine conference games.

Also receiving honorable mention recognition from the MIAA coaches from Calvin
was senior goaltender Leah VanderPloeg. VanderPloeg is a native of Hudsonville
and a graduate of Unity Christian High School. This fall, VanderPloeg posted a
goals-against-average of 1.29 along with 132 saves and six shutouts. Vander
Ploeg closed out her career high on several Calvin career charts, moving into
first place in career saves (411), second in goaltender victories (36), and
    third in goaltender shutouts (20).

Calvin finished the season with a 12-6-1 overall record and a 9-3-2 conference
mark that was good for a third place MIAA finish. With its 12 victories, Calvin
reached the double-digit plateau in victories for the 14th straight year.
