    CALVIN SPORTS REPORT FOR THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10

    MEN’S GOLF

    WEST OLIVE – Calvin’s men’s golf team traveled for the seventh and final
    MIAA tournament today, trailing Alma by just one stroke for third place in the
    MIAA league standings. The Knights were unable to make up that stroke though,
    as the Scots won the final tournament and solidified third place. Alma shot a
    collective 301 for the day in defeating the league champion Olivet, who shot a
    307. Hope finished in third with a 309 team score. Calvin was in the middle as
    they collected 312 strokes along with Albion, who used their 312 to raise a spot
    in the league standings. Adrian shot a disappointing 321 and was followed up by
    Kalamazoo who shot a 348 to round out the group.

    Olivet’s Mike Dinner took medalist for the tournament with a scorching 71.

    Calvin was again led by senior Mike Sherman (Grand Rapids Christian) who took
    73 strokes on the day. Junior Matt Kelly (Western Michigan Christian) was
    Sherman’s closest follower with a 77. Other scores for the Knights are
    unavailable at this time.

    Calvin had two members earn All-MIAA second-team honors. Karsten finished in
    seventh place in the MIAA with a season average of 77.9 strokes per round.
    Eleventh place was taken by Kelly who ended with a 79.1 strokes per round
    average.

    Justin Spyker from Hope College was the season medalist in shooting a 75.28
    average. He was closely followed by Scott Miller of Olivet College who shot a
    75.33 average.

    Calvin finished in fourth place overall in the team standings with a season
    score of 2202 (314.6 average). They were topped by Olivet who took 2133 (304.7)
    strokes. Hope earned second by taking 2162 (308.8) and Alma was able to hold
    off Calvin with only 2190 (312.8) strokes. Albion was able to beat Adrian by
    nine strokes in the final tournament in order to move one stroke ahead and
    finish in fifth place with a 2238 (319.7). Adrian then fell to sixth with a
    2239 (319.8) season score. Kalamazoo rounded out the bunch with a 2392
    (341.8).
