Report for May 6, 2002
BASEBALL
The MIAA title and a berth in next week's NCAA III Tournament will be on the
line when Calvin and Hope meet in a three-game series Tuesday and Wednesday at
Calvin Field. The series is set to begin on Tuesday with a single nine-inning
game at 4:00 pm followed by a pair of seven-inning contests on Wednesday
beginning at 2:0 pm.
Hope holds the upper hand heading into the three-game series as the
nationally-ranked Flying Dutchmen need only one victory to clinch the MIAA title
and the NCAA III Tournament bid while Calvin needs a three-game sweep to win the
crown.
Hope (28-3 overall) will bring a 26-game win streak into the series on Tuesday
and is ranked 22nd nationally and 4th in the Mideast Region. Calvin is ranked
eighth in the Mideast Region and has a school-record win total of 25 victories
as the Knights are 25-11 overall, having recently reached the 20-win plateau for
the third straight year.
All of the action will be available on Calvin's web site via live real audio
broadcasts at: www.calvin.edu/sports/baseball/schedule.htm
The pre-game show for Tuesday's broadcast will begin at 3:30 pm with Grand
Rapids Press sports writer Alan Babbitt joining Calvin sports information
director Jeff Febus as the special pre-game guest.
