    MEN'S BASKETBALL

Calvin opened play in its own Calvin Tip-Off Tournament with a 73-58 victory
over Orchard Lake St. Mary's at the Calvin Fieldhouse. The Knights will face
Aurora (IL) in Saturday's championship game at 7:30 pm. Aurora was an 88-85
winner over MacMurray (IL) in Friday's first game.

St. Mary's held the lead through the first 10 minutes but a bucket by sophomore

a 24-6 Calvin run as the Knights rolled to a 40-22 halftime lead. Calvin
maintained a comfortable margin throughout the second half to gain the win.

Junior All-American candidate Jeremy Veenstra (Kalamazoo Christian) led the
Calvin scoring attack with 23 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists
while committing just one turnover. Prins was next with 19 points and a
career-high eight steals while sophomore Kevin Broene (Grand Rapids Christian)
chipped in with nine points in his varsity debut.

St. Mary's was led by former Grand Rapids Central High School standout Arthur
    Hughes with 19 points.

Calvin is now 52-29 in season openers.

    WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Calvin advanced to the championship game of the Wilmington College Classic with
an impressive 88-47 win over Miseracordia (PA) Friday evening in Wilmington,
Ohio. The Knights will face host Wilmington in the championship game Saturday
