    BASEBALL

    FORT MYERS, FL - Calvin picked up its first victory of the year with a
    6-5 extra-innings win over Dana College of Nebraska Wednesday evening.
    Calvin scored the game-winning run in the top of the 10th when senior
    Aaron Wiers (Chicago, IL) was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded.
    Junior Matt Schmitz (Lowell) then hurled a scoreless frame in the bottom
    half of the inning top pick up the win.

    Calvin (1-2) took a 4-0 lead with four runs in the top of the fourth but
    Dana battled back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and two in
    the bottom of the sixth with Calvin scoring once in the top of the sixth
    to allow the Knights to build a 5-4 lead. Dana then scored once in the
    bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.

    Calvin collected 16 hits in the victory with senior Jason TeBos (Calvin
    Christian) leading the way with three hits including a triple and
    double. Wiers, senior Dirk Eppinga (Walnut Creek, CA) and junior Andrew
    Drake (Marion, OH) all belted triples. Junior Mark Jansen (Denver, C0),
    Drake, Eppinga and Dykhouse collected two hits apiece.

    Junior Andy Miedema (Unity Christian) hurled the first six innings with
    senior Ryan Wolthuis (South Christian) pitching the seven and Schmitz
    throwing the final three frames.

    Calvin returns to action on Thursday with a doubleheader against Amherst
    (MA).

    WOMEN'S COLLEGE SOFTBALL

    Calvin went 1-2 Wednesday in Fort Myers, Florida to move to 2-3 on the
    year. Calvin opened the day with a 7-6 win over Fontbonne (MO) College
    but then fell 9-1 to Oneonta State (NY) and 9-3 to North Central College
    (IL).

    In the victory over Fontbonne, Calvin erupted for 15 hits with senior
    Rhonda Volkers (Holland Christian) collecting three hits including a
    double. Seniors Holly DeYoung (Kalamazoo Christian) and Erin
    Dyksterhouse (Kalamazoo Christian) and sophomores Becky Austen
    (Pembroke, ON) and Emily Mejeur (Kalamazoo Christian) all collected two
    hits apiece with Mejeur ripping a triple. Junior Susannah Knust
    (Grandville) also picked up a triple for the Knights. Calvin scored
    three times in the top of the fifth to gain the win with Dyksterhouse
    scoring the winning run. Freshman Keri Cole (2-0) picked up the win,
    striking out seven and walking two.

    Oneonta State then handed Calvin a mercy-rule loss, using nine walks
    handed out by the Calvin pitching staff while the Knights managed just
    five hits and one run. Sophomore Jen Succop (Sparta) took the loss for
    Calvin on the mound.

    In the loss to defending CCIW champion North Central, Calvin was held
    scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when it scored three runs to
    pull to within 6-3 but the Cardinals answered with three runs in the top
    of the seventh to secure the win. Junior Jen Bowen (Troy) took the loss
    for Calvin on the mound. Freshman Annelise Pettinga (South Christian)
    had the lone extra-base hit for Calvin with a double.

    Calvin returns to action Thursday when it faces Buffalo State and
    Marycrest College.

    WOMEN'S TENNIS

    Calvin fell to 2-2 on the year with a 5-4 loss to Carthage (WI)
    Wednesday in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Calvin picked up victories in
    four of the six singles flights but Carthage swept all three doubles
    flights to edge the Knights. Calvin will face Macalester (MN) Thursday.

    Calvin dropped to 1-6 on the year with a 7-0 loss to Carthage Wednesday
    in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Knights will attempt to snap a
    five-match losing streak on Thursday when they face Babson College.
