SPORTS REPORT FOR FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1

    WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

(report filed by Calvin sports information student assistant Ross Weener
    from Naperville, Illinois)

Calvin picked up a victory in the opening game of the Pat Pasko memorial
tournament in stunning fashion on Friday evening by coming from behind
and beating the Webster University Gorloks 58-57.

The first half belonged to the Gorloks as they shot 50 percent from the
floor as well as 3-3 from three point range. Calvin went into the locker
    room at halftime down 32-28.

Webster continued its domination in the second half increasing their
lead to as many as 8 points. The Knights would not give up and continued
to scratch away at the lead. With 1:37 left in regulation and the
Gorloks leading 54-51, Calvin sophomore Emily Beard (Southfield) nailed
a jumper to make the score 54-53. A Calvin foul and one made free throw
by Webster gave the Gorloks a two point advantage 55-53. After a Calvin
timeout the Knights worked the ball up the floor and junior Kris Bohlman
(Middleton, WI) gave a quick pass to sophomore Jennifer Plakmeyer
(Calvin Christian) and she drained a three pointer that gave Calvin a
56-55 lead with just 37 second left in the game. With Webster in the
double bonus the Knights fouled a Webster player as she brought the ball
down the court. Two freethrows later the Gorloks were leading the
Knights 57-56 with just 15 second left. Calvin inbounded the ball to
Plakmeyer and she took the ball the length of the floor and dished it
off to Beard at the last second for a 12 foot jumper. The ball sailed
smoothly through the cylinder and Calvin escaped with a 58-57 victory as
the last second half court shot fell short.

Leading the Knights was Plakmeyer as she tallied 16 points and 4
rebounds. Also chipping in for the Knights wth a double double was Beard
as she recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Knights forced 29 Webster
turnover and held the Gorloks to 25 second half points.

Calvin will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they play the
winner of the North Centrl/Anderson for the Pat Pasko Memorial
Tournament championship. Game time is 4PM CST.
