HTMAD: Software Design for MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry-Based Microbial Community Analysis

Basic information

Scientific computing and the ability to write specific programs to analyze large datasets of biological information has become an increasingly important skill with regards to advancing biological research. Python is rapidly becoming a prominent programming language with which scientific computing is conducted.

Reasons include the fact that it is simple, powerful, and many other people have created modules with which one can use for solving, stimulating, and resolving vast amounts of experimental data. This project included updating the existing program written in Python for a matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometer (MALDI-TOF MS) to include modules for for phylogenetic tree construction as well as comparison of diversity (species richness and abundance) within and between microbial communities.
