Calvin Hoping to Show D3 Title Tilt
If Calvin College gets by the University of Rochester on March 18 and advances to the NCAA Division III championship game, the college will show that game live in the Calvin Fieldhouse at 5 pm on Saturday.
The game is being carried live by College Sports Television (CSTV) and that channel is part of the campus cable package, so Calvin plans to carry the game across campus on Saturday, including on a big-screen TV in the Fieldhouse.
Says Calvin's Robert Crow: "We also will have pizza, pop, popcorn, etc available for a modest cost, but there will be no charge to enter the Fieldhouse. We're hoping for a Calvin win on Friday and a great turnout on Saturday."
Crow notes that the north bleachers and the east and west lower bleachers will be available for seating, adding: "We also will have a tarp on the main floor for protection and invite people to bring along their own seating - camp chairs, beanbag chairs, etc - if they'd like to sit on the main floor.
The doors will open at 4 pm that day.
Crow says a number of Calvin administrators, including Ada Castle, Glenn VanAndel, Sandy Palmatter, Tanya Bulthuis, Rick Mosher, Carl Hordyk, John Witte and the staff at Creative Dining Services were instrumental in making the event possible.
"And the men's basketball team should they happen to get past Rochester," he adds with a chuckle.
