The Flat Iron Lake House is located in the Flat Iron Lake Preserve in Greenville. It is primarily a Calvin University research facility but is available for rent during the academic year for small educational meetings and overnight retreats of 25 people or less.
Facility
Meeting space: The great room with fireplace can fit up to 25 people. In addition, the smaller living room and laboratory areas can fit 10-15 people each and are great for small group activities.
Kitchen: The Lake House has a recently remodeled kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher. It also has two 10-cup drip coffee makers. The kitchen is outfitted with an assortment of pots and pans for cooking and serving food, and table service for about 12.
Restrooms: There are two full baths on the main floor and a ¾ bath off the basement laboratory. No bath towels are provided; users must bring their own.
Sleeping accommodations: The house has three bedrooms. One has two sets of bunkbeds; another has one bunk bed set; and the last has a double and queen bed. The basement has ample floor space for people in sleeping bags. No bedding or linens are provided; users must bring their own sheets, pillows and sleeping bags.
Outdoor facilities: In season the deck provides a pleasant area for meetings, meals or just relaxing. There are tables and chairs as well as a gas grill. Near the lake there is a fire pit which can be used. Users will need to bring their own wood. Fires must be attended to and completely extinguished after use. The dock provides access to the lake for fishing or relaxing by the water. A shed near the dock has canoes and kayaks. Personal floatation devices are provided and should be used. The pontoon boat at the dock is not available for use.
Fees
Rental is currently free to Calvin departments and student organizations. Christian Reformed churches and related agencies receive a 50% discount on the rental fee.
The standard fee applies for groups not affiliated with Calvin University: a half day (4 hours or less) is $150, and a full day (more than 4 to 24 hours) is $250.
Please note: All groups will pay a $100 cleaning fee.
Make a Reservation
Reservations must be made at least 15 days before the event, and are taken on a first come, first served basis. Student organizations are required to have a faculty/staff member accompany them.
NOTE: The house is not available for personal events such as weddings, parties, etc.
