Mr. Dirk J Pruis

Vice President for Finance & Chief Financial Officer

Biography

Dirk Pruis received an MBA from the University of Michigan School of Business and a BA in business with an accounting concentration from Calvin College. He is currently serving as the Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Calvin University. Prior to his current role, Pruis was a faculty member for nine years in the Calvin School of Business and served as the Director of the Financial Planning program and the faculty advisor for Calvin Nexus Peer Financial Coaching. During his time on the faculty, Pruis taught ten different courses spanning accounting, finance and multiple capstone courses. 

Pruis also serves on the boards of BNY Mellon Government Securities Services Corp., the primary entity where US government securities settle and clear, where he also chairs the Audit and Risk Committee; Meritage Hospitality Group, Inc., a publicly traded Grand Rapids-based restaurant company where he also chairs the Audit Committee; and Creative Dining Services, a Michigan-based institutional food services provider.  Prior to joining the business faculty at Calvin in 2014, Pruis was a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs where he most recently served as the Chief of Staff for the Operations Division. Pruis has spent a good portion of the 15 years prior to entering higher education in market infrastructure strategy for Goldman Sachs (planning and helping the formation of new exchanges, clearing organizations and other securities industry technology and market data companies) which led to his serving as Chief Executive/President of two different industry-owned bank consortiums, one in the securities lending business (EquiLend) and the other the US clearinghouse for credit default swaps (ICE Clear Credit, formerly ICE Trust, owned by IntercontinentalExchange, Inc.). He has also held senior leadership positions for Goldman Sachs in offices in Japan as well as Mexico. Pruis has performed consulting for Goldman Sachs and previously served as an advisor to the board of Clarient Global LLC, another industry consortium, in the client reference data business, owned by a number of Wall Street banks and The Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation. Professor Pruis began his career in public accounting and worked as a CPA in both the Grand Rapids and New York offices of Deloitte & Touche.  Pruis is a licensed CPA in the state of Michigan.
