Kayla Adkins

Grade: Sophomore
Hometown: Springfield, IL
Major: Psychology & Social Work

My love for music started in my second-grade violin lessons, but my passion was solidified when I got a guitar for my tenth birthday. I have been singing at every opportunity since middle school choir. I started taking music especially seriously in high school, participating in three school choirs, show choir, musical theater, and leading worship in church. At Calvin, I am a member of the Women’s Golf team, have participated in chapel teams, and am attending the Gainey Leadership Retreat. I am also in the Calvin Honors Scholars Program. Outside of music, I enjoy golfing, getting coffee with friends, movie nights, and curling up with a good book. I am looking forward to being a Worship Apprentice to learn more about what it means to be a leader, to build new relationships, and to worship the Lord with the amazing community at Calvin!

Grace Guillory

Grade: Senior
Hometown: Saudi Arabia
Major: Speech Pathology and Audiology

Hi, my name is Grace Guillory and I major in Speech Pathology and Audiology. I grew up in Saudi Arabia leading worship at my fellowship. From a young age I took piano lessons and I loved to sing. When I moved to Saudi Arabia, a mentor helped me to combine singing and piano and taught me how to use my talent to lead worship. From that moment on I knew that singing and playing the piano to God was one of the main purposes of my life, and I can’t wait to continue to do that here at Calvin!

Cath Kortman

Grade: Junior
Hometown: Grandville, Michigan
Major: Ministry Leadership and Philosophy

Cath grew up listening to her parents sing in church and learning to play the piano from her sister. She started taking piano lessons in second grade and taught herself to play the guitar in sixth grade, as well as singing in choir and playing viola in orchestra throughout high school. She led worship for the first time when she was in seventh grade with the gracious support of her parent’s church. She has since led worship at other area churches and loves to glorify God through piano, guitar, and voice. Cath is on the cross country and track and field teams at Calvin, sings with Capella and Women’s Chorale, and was a member of the Ministry Leadership Cohort in her first two years at Calvin. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, caring for her houseplants, and watching Star Wars. She is excited to be a Worship Apprentice to deepen her understanding of worship and plan worship in a community of peers.

Yoseob Lim

Grade: Senior
Hometown: South Korea
Major: Economics (Business and Global Development Studies Minor)

Hello, my name is Yoseob Lim. I am majoring in Economics and minoring in Business and Global Development studies. As I grew up as a missionary kid, I had the privilege of worshipping God in many different places such as Korea, China, Israel, Jordan, and America. Since middle school, I have been part of worship teams. In Israel I played guitar for my church and every Saturday night I did street worship. It was an amazing experience to worship God in the middle of the Jews. In high school, I was a worship team leader for my school worship team and part of the worship team for the church in middle east, Jordan. Now I’m part of the Living Water CRC worship team and Gospel Choir. The more I get to worship God, the more my life becomes full of true joy, happiness, and hope. I love outdoor activities such as traveling, sports (soccer, swimming, tennis, table tennis, and running), photography, and hanging out with friends. I think traveling is the best way to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. I’m truly glad to become a part of the Worship Apprentice program because Calvin is the best place to worship God with people from different nations, cultures, and backgrounds which resembles the kingdom of God. I want to contribute to Calvin to become a place where everyone can feel comfortable and joyful worshiping God.

Grace McAboy

Grade: Sophomore
Hometown: Zeeland, Michigan
Major: Social Work (Minor in Psychology)

I have always grown up surrounded by music and have felt passionate about singing. I have been involved in choir every year since 6th grade, and I took private voice lessons for a total of 5 years. I am immensely grateful for all the opportunities God has given me to use my voice in theatre, choir, recitals, and worship teams because those challenges and opportunities helped me grow my passion for music and strengthen my relationship with God and friends. I have always felt driven by my love for Jesus, and I want to continue following God’s calling in my life by leading worship at Calvin and pursuing a career in Social Work. I not only love to sing, but I’m also passionate about serving others, education, being in nature (especially Lake Michigan), spending time with friends and family, and worshiping the Lord in fellowship with others! I look forward to seeing the ways in which God moves through Calvin’s campus this year, and I’m excited to learn about what it means to be a servant leader through working with Pastor Paul, Professor Glasper, and all my fellow WAs.

Hyomin Kevin Park

Grade: Sophomore
Hometown: Suncheon-si, South Korea
Major: Religion and Philosophy

Having been born into a pastor’s family, I was exposed to worship from a young age, often watching my father lead worship in our church. I started leading worship in middle school, and while at first, it was out of responsibility, it soon became my passion. I served in different positions for many worship teams, as a leader, a bassist, a drummer, or a singer. My passion for worship grew into a calling as I served in my high school worship team as a chapel and prayer leader, as well as serving as a youth worship leader in my church in South Korea. My style of worship is heavily influenced by Korean worship teams such as YWAM Campus Worship, and other worship artists such as Tim Hughes. Currently, I am serving as a band leader in a team called Awakening, a Korean-student based worship team on Calvin’s campus, as well as serving as a bassist for Kelloggsville Church. My passion outside of an academic setting is listening to or performing music, soccer, taking long walks and cooking. I am grateful for the opportunity to join in Calvin’s diverse worship as a Worship Apprentice and will continue to strive to glorify the Lord with all I am.

Chloe Russell

Grade: Senior
Hometown: Saint Joseph, Michigan
Major: Film and Media Production

My name is Chloe Russell and I’ve been playing viola on worship teams for 8 years and singing for 4 years. I’ve been in several orchestras since 6th grade and traveled nationally with them. Serving as a counselor at Warner Memorial camp for the last three summers has taught me lots about leading and maintaining a positive outlook when curveballs are thrown my way. I work as a Lab Aid within the film department at Calvin and participate in Dance Guild each semester. In my free time I enjoy reading books, doing crafts, and listening to music. I’m really looking forward to being a friendly face that students can look towards for encouragement and to be someone that can make their day a little bit better. I transferred to Calvin Fall of 2022. I’m a huge fan of Calvin’s improv team and go to every show. I created an orchestra at my home church that has been going strong for 5 years.
