Biography

Simon Awafor Tamungang was born in Cameroon where he had his primary education and later moved to Nigeria for university education.

Simon is an Associate Professor of Applied Ecology and Wildlife Management at the University of Bamenda, Cameroon, and also a Certified Project Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist from the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organisation in Turin, Italy. Simon also bags a self-improvement certificate on Effective Business Communication from The Open University in the UK. He is an alumnus research fellow of two Commonwealth Fellowships in the University of Nottingham, and the University of University of Greenwich, all in the UK. He was the Head of the Department of Basic Science, and subsequently Head of the Department of Forestry & Wildlife Technology at the University of Bamenda and a visiting Senior Lecturer and researcher in Conservation Biology in the Department of Animal Biology at the University of Dschang, all in Cameroon.

Dr Tamungang enjoys teaching students and carrying out research on projects that involve land-use patterns, wildlife conservation management, and sustainable development. His major research work focuses on understanding the impact and consequence of ecological pressures on wildlife resources, specialising on the ways humans wrought nature and their corresponding implications on the welfare of wildlife populations.

Simon Tamungang’s research publications explore these issues on the African Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus) as a typical case study. So far, results of his research indicate that poorly adapted anthropogenic activities on a landscape, adversely affect wildlife population resilience through attenuations in population status, reduction of critical habitat resources, and biological diversity. Finally, Simon's research work has demonstrated that indices of critical ecological pressures on wildlife resources can be used for informed conservation policies, to enhance their conservation management by human populations and accordingly contribute to environmental well-being, and sustainable development.
