Stob Lectures Focus On John Calvin

Summary: The 2009 Stob Lecture series will focus on John Calvin and his work in reshaping the Christian tradition in Europe. The lectures are at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, November 4-5, 2009, in the Seminary Chapel.

In his 500th birthday year the Stob Lecture Series will feature the Genevan reformer. The lectures, which are at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, November 4-5, 2009, in the Seminary Chapel, focus on how John Calvin reshaped Christian tradition in Reformation Europe.

David C. Steinmetz of Duke Divinity School will give two lectures. Wednesday's lecture is titled, "Calvin and the Impotent God." On Thursday Steinmetz will speak on "Calvin and Spiritual Real Presence."

The Stob lectures, named after the late Dr. Henry J. Stob, present matters related to the fields of ethics, apologetics and philosophical theology.

Dr. Stob graduated from Calvin College '32 and Calvin Theological Seminary '35 and taught at both Calvin and Calvin Theological Seminary. In 1976, he received the college's Distinguished Alumni Award.
