Summary: Calvin College is just one of eight U.S. venues to host an
international traveling art exhibition featuring the work of seven Asian and
seven North American artists.

Calvin College is showcasing about 40 pieces of international art over the
next month. Charis (pronounced "karis"), an international traveling exhibition,
will be on display at Calvin's Center Art Gallery and downtown (106) S.
Division gallery from September 4 through October 10.

The exhibition features the work of seven Asian and seven American artists,
among them Calvin art professor Jo-Ann Van Reeuwyk and film professor Daniel
Garcia.

Charis (Greek for "gift" or “grace") includes paintings, sculptures,
assemblage, fiber constructions, installations and video projections. The
collected artwork represents each artists' response to a two-week immersion
experience they shared in Indonesia in the summer of 2008. That project was
funded by the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and the Nagel
Institute for the Study of World Christianity.

Roger Feldman, art professor at Seattle Pacific University, will be on campus
beginning Thursday, September 17, working with students in constructing a part
of the traveling exhibition titled: "Inside Passage." The piece will be
constructed on the north lawn of the Prince Conference Center and is expected
to be completed by Friday, September 25.

For more information about Charis or about Feldman's visit, contact Jo-Ann Van
Reeuwyk at 616-526-6331.
