CALVIN KNIGHT WEEKEND SPORTS REPORT FOR MARCH 25, 2018
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's swimming and diving team finished the 2018 season on Saturday night at the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. The Knights finished in 11th place with 101.5 points. The 11th-place finish is the highest finish since 2009, when Calvin finished in ninth place.
"This is a long week and tough environment," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "This team progressed over the last couple years and did some very respectable things. All 15 of our athletes scored, seven All-Americans and eight All-American honorable mentions. There are always some things that don't go our way, but future teams will benefit from what we learned and most importantly, we have stories to share for a lifetime."
Senior Abby Van Harn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) touched the wall at 50.44 to earn All-American honors in fifth place.
Senior Sarah Bradley (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) closed her career at Calvin with a ninth-place finish on the 3-meter boards with 466.65 points. Bradley jumped four spots from the preliminary round.
"Really proud of Sarah," said head diving coach Aaron Paskvan. "She gave it her all, missed one dive and it was a tough, tough competition. She then put them all together and went after it and won the consolation final. I could not be prouder; she showed a lot of character and courage. I'm sure she was disappointed by not making the final and she took advantage of her opportunity and she won it."
The Maroon and Gold finished the season with an All-American performance in the 400-yard freestyle. The team of junior Madelyn Smith (Allegan, Mich./Allegan), junior Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney), senior Rachel Mattson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and Abby Van Harn finished in eighth place at 3:26.84.

The Maroon and Gold finish the season as champions of the MIAA for the 14th-straight season.
