Katie Diekema Qualifies for NCAA III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships in Mile Run;
Calvin Men's Swimming and Diving Sending Eight to NCAA III Championships;
Calvin Women's Swimming and Diving Sending Seven to NCAA III Championships
WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
Calvin College junior Katie Diekema has qualified for the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships slated to be held March 9 and 10 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.
Diekema (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) will compete in the mile run where she is seeded 11th with a time of 4:55.52. She will be one of 17 competitors in the mile run and will compete in the prelims on Friday afternoon at 2:50 p.m.
"Our track and field program is extremely excited to see Katie qualify for the national meet," said Calvin head track and field coach Bret Otte. "She has worked very hard to get this opportunity and she is running at a very high level right now."
Diekema was recently named the MIAA's Most Valuable Runner for indoor track and field after winning MIAA titles in both the mile and 5,000 meter runs two weeks ago at the MIAA Championships at Trine University.
She is no stranger to NCAA III Championship competition. This past November, she placed 125th individually at the NCAA III Cross Country Championships. Last May, she qualified for the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships and finished 15th in the 1,500 meter run.
MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) announced the invited swimmers to the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships on Monday afternoon. The Calvin men's swimming & diving team will have seven swimmers and one diver representing and
The Knights will swim four relays in Indiana.
In the 200-yard medley relay, junior Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason), junior Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), junior Jacob Lensing (Pella, Iowa/Pella Christian) and senior Tanner Vincent (Novi, Mich./Novi) qualified.
The team of Jared Britton, Ben Holstege, freshman Julian Iturbe (Caracas, Venezuela/Colegio Emil Friedman) and Tanner Vincent will compete in the 400-yard medley relay.
The Maroon and Gold will send Jared Britton, senior Max DeYoung (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern), Julian Iturbe and Ben Holstege will swim in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, representing Calvin will be. Jared Britton, junior Skyler Fish (Ionia, Mich./Ionia), Ben Holstege and Julian Iturbe.
Ben Holstege will also swim in the 100-yard backstroke.
Jared Britton will compete in the 50-yard freestyle.
Senior Michael Moentmann (Solon, Oh./Solon HS) will also compete on both the one and three-meter diving boards.
The competition will take place March 21-24 in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the IU Natatorium.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

The 800-yard freestyle relay team of senior Abby Van Harn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), sophomore Libby Engle (Troy, Mich./Troy), junior Anna Serino (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) and junior Madelyn Smith (Allegan, Mich./Allegan) qualified.
Also, qualifying was the 400-yard freestyle relay of Libby Engle, senior Rachel Mattson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron), Madelyn Smith and Abby Van Harn.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Emily Gunderson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), Rachel Mattson, Madelyn Smith and Abby Van Harn will race in Indiana.
Abby Van Harn will individually compete in the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle.
Anna Serino will race in the 200-yard freestyle.
Senior Sarah Bradley (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS) will compete on both the one and three-meter diving boards.
The competition will take place March 21-24 in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the IU Natatorium.
