WOMEN'S LACROSSE
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's lacrosse team was picked the favorite in the 2018 MIAA preseason coaches' poll. The Knights received 63 total points and six first-place votes.

MEN'S LACROSE
The Calvin men's lacrosse team has been picked to finish sixth in the MIAA preseason coaches' poll. The Knights received 38 points, one point behind Olivet which was pegged to finish fifth.

SOFTBALL
The Calvin softball team has been picked to finish fifth in the 2018 MIAA preseason coaches' poll. The Knights received 36 total points. Trine earned six first-place votes to earn 62 points after advancing to the 2017 NCAA Division III Softball Championships.

BASEBALL
The Calvin baseball team has been picked fourth in the 2018 MIAA preseason coaches' poll. The Knights are tied for fourth in the preseason poll with Trine.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's tennis team opened the 2018 season on Thursday with a victory over Cornerstone. The Knights took home east beltline bragging rights with an 8-1 victory over the Golden Eagles.
"Today was a great start to the season," said head coach Kevin Van Haitsma. "It was nice to start the season with a victory. We had some good results on the courts today. We have a very young team, so it is always nice to get more experience playing in matches."
The freshman duo of Leah Newhof (Caledonia, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and Madeline Brouwer (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) picked up the first point of the day for the Knights at No. 1 doubles. The Knights defeated Nicole VerHulst and Lauren Brendel, 8-0.
The Knights took care of business at No. 2 doubles. The team of senior Lark Foote (Okemos, Mich./Home school) and sophomore Anna Asfour (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) downed Marissa Hooker and Ana Hoezee, 8-1.
At No. 3 doubles, freshman Alexis Bonner (Alto, Mich./Forest Hills Central) and sophomore Brittney Statema (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) secured the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory over Sierra Griffith and Madeline Grose.
Madeline Brouwer brought out the brooms at No. 2 singles, defeating Marissa Hooker, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 1 singles, Leah Newhof sank Lauren Brendel, 6-2, 6-0.
Anna Asfour was victorious at No. 3 singles, topping Ana Hoezee, 6-0, 6-0.
Lark Foote kept the winning streak alive with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles over Sierra Griffith.
Alexis Bonner brought home victory at No. 5 singles, topping Madeline Grose, 6-1, 6-0.
Cornerstone won the final match of the day at court six.
The Knights will return to action on Feb. 16 against Aquinas.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Hope 70, Calvin 69
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's basketball team tipped off against No. 6 Hope College on Wednesday evening in the 120th edition of The Rivalry. The Knights fell 70-69 in a hard-fought battle against a nationally-ranked team.
Through 50 years of The Rivalry, Calvin holds a 71-49 series lead. Hope won the first meeting of the year, claiming a narrow 58-51 victory on January 13 at DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland.
With the loss, Calvin falls to 14-8 overall with a 9-4 to sit at fourth place in the MIAA. Hope improves to 20-1 and an 11-1 conference mark for first place in the league standings.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Trine 75, Calvin 68 (OT)
ANGOLA, Ind. - Calvin dropped a 75-68 overtime decision at Trine University Wednesday night.
The host Thunder went on a 13-4 run late in regulation to tie the game at 59. Junior Austin Bykerk (Jenison, Mich./Unity Christian HS) nailed a jumper to give Calvin a 61-59 lead with 1:40 left in regulation but the Thunder scored the next four points to take a 63-61 lead with 50 seconds remaining.
Freshman Luke Morrison (Bristol, Ind./Northridge HS) connected on a jumper for the Knights (8-14 overall, 4-7 MIAA) with 23 seconds remaining to tie the game at 63.
Calvin junior Jason Walter (Coloma, Mich./Coloma HS) blocked a Trine shot in the closing seconds to help send the game into overtime.
