MEN'S GOLF

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - John Van Noord will compete at the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships.

"It's a great honor for John Van Noord to be recognized among the best players in Division III," said Calvin men's golf head coach Brian Bolt. "It's been an honor to coach both John Van Noord and Ben VanScoyk, who have been pushing each other as teammates since freshman year, and their performances have been nearly identical for three years. It's too bad that Ben could not also get a bid, but he is excited for John, as is the rest of the team. We are grateful that John will get a chance to represent Calvin, the MIAA, and our region at the NCAA national tournament."

The competition will take place at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The four-day tournament will start on Tuesday, May 16.
A junior from Troy, Michigan, Van Noord recorded a 72.69 average on the year. He is the first individual to represent Calvin at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.

Van Noord is one of five individuals to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Two members of the Calvin women's lacrosse team have received MIAA Player of the Week honors for their play in the MIAA Tournament. Calvin defeated Albion 15-4 and Hope 15-0 to win the MIAA Tournament for the second straight year. Sophomore attacker Kelly Pepper has been named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goalie Ellis Chalfant has been named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

"I'm extremely proud of Kelly's and Ellis' performances this week," said Calvin head coach Blake Boehm. "Ellis worked hard to keep Hope off the board and deserves a lot of credit for the shutout win on Saturday. Kelly surprisingly seems to fly under the radar of most teams, but when she gets going, she's hard to stop. She has had several games where she starts off our scoring runs and racks up a lot of points quickly."

Pepper (Wyckoff, N.J./Indian Hills) scored seven goals and had four assists MIAA Tournament play last week. In a semifinal win over Albion, she scored four goals and notched an assist. In the championship game, she had three goals and a season-high three assists. This is the second time in her career and the first time this season that she has claimed the weekly honor.

Chalfant (St. Louis, Mo./Mary Institute St. Louis Country Day School) was stellar for Calvin in MIAA Tournament play, posting a goals-against-average of 2.00 while making eight saves. In the championship win over Hope on Saturday, she came up with three saves in her third shutout of the season. This is the second time in her career and the first time this season that she has claimed the weekly honor.

Calvin captured the MIAA Tournament title on Saturday defeating Hope 15-0 in the title game. The Knights have advanced to their second straight NCAA Division III Tournament competition and will travel to Mount Union for a game on Saturday afternoon.
