Women's Lacrosse Headed to Mount Union for NCAA III Tournament Play;
Baseball Qualifies for MIAA Tournament - Will Face Adrian in First Round

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin women's lacrosse team will open the 2017 NCAA Division III Tournament in Ohio. The Knights secured a spot in the tournament with winning the MIAA Tournament with a 15-0 victory over Hope. Calvin will play Mount Union University in Alliance, Ohio, in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday, May 13.
"We are excited for this opportunity," said Calvin head coach Blake Boehm. "There are many great teams that are in this tournament. We are honored to represent Calvin College and the MIAA. We will head out to Mount Union and give it everything we've got."
Calvin is making its second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Knights traveled to St. John Fisher in 2016. Calvin is 0-1 in NCAA Tournament play.
The Knights have won their last 11 games and claimed the MIAA Regular Season and MIAA Tournament titles in the same season for the first time in program history.
Mount Union is 13-3 on the season. The Purple Raiders won their fourth consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship with an 11-8 victory over Baldwin Wallace. Mount Union has won seven straight games heading into the NCAA Tournament. In its fifth varsity season, the Purple Raiders are making their fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Mount Union has a 3-3 record in NCAA post-season games.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools.

BASEBALL

The Calvin baseball team has qualified for the four-team MIAA Tournament. The Knights (19-21) are the No. 4 seed for the double-elimination tournament scheduled to open on Wednesday. Calvin will travel to top-seeded Adrian (30-10) for a first round game Wednesday night scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Kalamazoo (28-12) is the No. 2 seed and will host No. 3 seed Hope (24-16) in the other first round game Wednesday.

As the top seed, Adrian will host the remainder of the tournament on Thursday and Friday.

Calvin finished the MIAA regular season standings in a three-way tie for fourth place with Alma and Trine at 13-15 but gained the No. 4 seed for the conference tournament due to a tiebreaker edge in the combined head-to-head results against both Alma and Trine.

Calvin will be making its fourth appearance in the MIAA Tournament in the last five years.
