Women's Basketball Routs Rochester;
Men's Basketball Win Streak Snapped at Kalamazoo
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Calvin 67, Rochester 52
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Calvin women's basketball team picked up a big non-conference victory at Rochester on Wednesday night. The Knights improved to 15-2 on the year with a 67-52 over Rochester.
The Warriors started off hot on Wednesday and would lead 21-16 after the first 10 minutes.
Calvin would fight back and cut the lead to two at halftime at 34-32.
The Knights would go on a 10-1 run to start the third quarter and would not look back from there. The Maroon and Gold would outscore the Warriors in the third, 19-8. Calvin would add on to the lead in the fourth quarter, 16-10.
Senior Anna Timmer (Caledonia, Mich./South Christian) notched her ninth double-double of the season with a career-high 20 rebounds and 15 points, she also had two steals and a block. Timmer now has a career total of 656 rebounds and stands alone in fourth place on the Calvin career list. She is one of only five players in Calvin women's basketball history to have amassed more than 1,000 points and 600 rebounds in a career.
Junior Ali Spayde (Lewis Center, Ohio/Worthington Christian) finished with a game-high 22 points. Senior Lauren Goldthorpe (St. Ignace, Mich./LaSalle) tallied 13 points.
The Knights owned the boards on Wednesday with 44 rebounds, with Rochester finishing with 28.
The Knights return to MIAA action on Saturday at Kalamazoo.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Kalamazoo 79, Calvin 70
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Calvin's five-game win streak came to an end Wednesday evening as the Knights suffered a 79-70 defeat at Kalamazoo College.
Calvin (9-7 overall, 4-1 MIAA) trailed 26-10 in the first half but rallied to slice the deficit to single-digits at the break as the Hornets (5-10 overall, 1-4 MIAA) led 37-28 at halftime.
Calvin whittled the Kalamazoo lead down to five points at 45-40 on a pair of free throws by junior Michael Wilks (Hudsonville, MI/Unity Christian HS) with 14:59 remaining.
Calvin trailed just 50-45 with 12:11 remaining but Kalamazoo was able to move ahead 66-54 on three straight layups by senior center Josh Miller.
A triple by Wilks sliced the Kalamazoo lead down to 68-61 with 3:42 remaining and senior Michael Welch (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore HS) converted a spinning layup to bring the Knights within five at 68-63 with 1:45 left.
Miller and Jake Whitney responded with back-to-back layups for the Hornets however to put Kalamazoo up 72-63. Wilks hit another triple with 41 seconds remaining to bring Calvin within 73-68.
Kalamazoo then hit six free throws inside the final 33 seconds to seal the win.
Junior Tony Canonie (South Haven, Mich./South Haven HS) led Calvin in scoring with 12 points while Wilks and Welch had 11 points apiece.
Miller led Kalamazoo with 25 points.
Both teams finished with 37 rebounds. Calvin was 6 of 28 from three-point range while Kalamazoo was 8 of 17 from beyond the arc.
Calvin will host Adrian on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.
