Calvin Sending Six to NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

The Calvin men's and women's track and field team will be sending six individuals to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships next week in in Waverly, Iowa, on the campus of Wartburg College.

Representing the Calvin men's team will be junior Zach Nowicki and sophomores Ethan Valentine and Andrew Philipose. Representing the Calvin women's team will be senior McKenzie Diemer, junior Lauren Strohbehn and sophomore Bethan Love.

The following are capsules of the six individuals competing for Calvin:

<strong>MEN'S TEAM </strong>

ZACH NOWICKI - (Comstock Park, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) - Nowicki will be making his first trip to the outdoor national meet and will compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Nowicki is seeded 16th in the race with a time of 9:08.20. Nowicki was the 2016 MIAA champion in the 5,000 meters and earned a spot on the All-MIAA team.

ANDREW PHILIPOSE - (Mount Prospect, Il./John Hersey HS) - Philipose will be making his first trip to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He will compete in the 10,000 meter run where he is seeded 12th (30:16.14). Philipose was second in the 5,000 meters at the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this spring and the MIAA indoor champion in the 3,000 meters. He was a member of the inaugural All-MIAA Indoor Track and Field Team.

ETHAN VALENTINE - (Mason, OH/William Mason HS) - Valentine will be making his second consecutive trip to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He will compete in the 400 meters where he is seeded 2nd (47.32). At the 2015 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Valentine placed fifth to earn NCAA III All-America honors. Earlier this month, he captured the MIAA title in a league and school-record time of 47.32. He also anchored Calvin's MIAA champion 4x400 meter relay team. He also captured the MIAA indoor title in the 400 meters this winter. He was a member of the 2016 All-MIAA Outdoor and Indoor Track and Field Teams.

WOMEN'S TEAM

McKENZIE DIEMER - (Caledonia, Mich./South Christian HS) - Diemer will be making her second consecutive trip to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase where she is seeded seventh (10:45.94). Diemer was the 2015 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Most Outstanding Runner. She was a member of the 2016 All-MIAA Indoor Track and Field Team after winning the league title in the mile.

LAUREN STROHBEHN - (Stillwater, MN/St. Croix Preparatory HS) - Strohbehn will be making her second consecutive trip to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete in the 10,000 meters and the 5,000 meters . In the 10,000 meters, she is seeded seventh (35:32.52). In the 5,000 meters, she is seeded 13th (16:54.65). A year ago, Strohbehn competed in the 5,000 meters at the outdoor national meet, placing 20th. Strohbehn was the MIAA champion this spring in the 5,000 meters and was later named to the All-MIAA team. During the indoor season this winter, she also claimed the league title in the 5,000 meters. earning a spot on the All-MIAA Indoor Track and Field Team.

BETHANY LOVE - (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood HS) - Love will be making her first trip to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete in the shot put where she is seeded 20th (44-2). Love was the 2016 MIAA indoor champion in the shot put and was later named the MIAA Indoor Most Outstanding Field Performer along with a spot on the All-MIAA Indoor Track and Field Team.
