Wolfe Named to ABCA Division III All-Mideast Region Team;
Calvin Track and Field Athletes Receive USTFCCCA Great Lakes All-Region Honors
BASEBALL
Calvin College junior Colton Wolfe has been named to the Division III All-Mideast Region third team by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
A native of Eaton Rapids and a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School, Wolfe batted .364 this spring while serving as Calvin's starting first baseman.
Wolfe clubbed 12 home runs and drove in 44 runs, establishing new Calvin single-season records in both categories. Wolfe scored 34 runs and was credited with 21 extra-base hits as he racked up a slugging percentage of .744.
In the field, Wolfe committed just two errors in 216 field changes for a sparkling .991 fielding percentage.
Wolfe was named to the All-MIAA first team for the second straight year. He was also named MIAA Position Player of the Week once during the spring.
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
Four members of the Calvin women's track and field team have received Division III Great Lakes All-Region honors from the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.
To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.
Named to the Great Lakes All-Region team from Calvin are senior McKenzie Diemer, junior Lauren Strohbehn, sophomore Jenna Dyksen and freshman Katie Diekema.
Diemer is from Caledonia. A graduate of Grand Rapids South Christian High School, she is regionally-ranked in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Strohbehn is from Stillwater, Minnesota. A graduate of St. Croix Preparatory High School, she is regionally-ranked in both the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter runs.
Dyksen is from Hawthorne, New Jersey. She is a graduate of Hawthorne High School. Dyksen is regionally-ranked in the 400 hurdles, 100 meter hurdles and in the long jump.
Diekema is from Kenmore, Washington. A graduate of Inglemoor High School, Diekema is regionally-ranked in the 1,500 meter run.
MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the Great Lakes All-Region honorees for the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field season on Monday and eight members of the Calvin men's track and field team have been so honored.
To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.
Named to the Great Lakes All-Region team from Calvin are seniors Ethan Anderson and Lucas Wolters, junior Zach Nowicki, sophomores Noah Buteyn, Marcus James, Ethan Valentine and Andrew Philipose and freshman James Jeninga.
Anderson is from Stillwater, Minnesota. He is a graduate of Stillwater Area High School. Anderson has been ranked in the top five in the region in the 10,000 meter run.
Wolters is from Vincennes, Indiana. He is a graduate of South Knox High School. He is ranked in the top five of the Great Lakes Region in the pole vault.
A native of Comstock Park and a graduate of Grandville Calvin Christian High School, Nowicki is ranked regionally in the steeplechase.
Philipose is from Mount Prospect, Illinois. A graduate of John Hersey High School, he is regionally-ranked in the 10,000 meter run.
Buteyn and James are both from Grand Rapids and graduates of Grand Rapids Christian High School. They are part of a regionally-ranked 4x400 meter relay team.
Valentine is from Powell, Ohio. He is a graduate of William Mason High School. He is the top-ranked individual regionally in the men's 400 meters and is a part of Calvin's regionally-ranked 4x400 meter relay team.
Jeninga is from Brookfield, Wisconsin. A graduate of Brookfield Central High School, he is a part of Calvin's regionally-ranked 4x400 meter relay team.
