Men's Soccer Lands 10 On All-MIAA Teams - Groenewold Named MIAA MVP;
Men's And Women's Soccer Teams Now Both in NSCAA Division III Top 25 Polls;
Swimming and Diving Teams Both Move Up in Collegeswimming.com Top 25 Polls;
Volleyball Team Holds No. 4 Spot in AVCA Division III Top 25 Poll;
Calvin Graduate Nicole Michmerhuizen Wins Indianapolis Marathon - Qualifies for U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials

MEN'S SOCCER

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin men's soccer team saw 10 honored by the MIAA on Tuesday. Senior Nick Groenewold has been named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player in men's soccer. This is the fourth-straight year that a Calvin player has been named the MIAA MVP. Six Knights were named first-team All-MIAA with four players being named to the All-MIAA second team. The six first team selections ties the school record for single-season selections with the 2014 team. The Knights finished first in the conference with a perfect 14-0 league record, winning both the regular season and conference tournament championships. Freshman Trent Vegter was named MIAA Newcomer of the Year.
Most Valuable Player
Groenewold, a senior from Oak Brook, Illinois, was also named to the All-MIAA first team for a second-straight year. Groenewold has tallied six goals and three assists on the year. He has also helped anchor a defense that has posted 17 shutouts in 2015.
Newcomer of the Year
Vegter, a freshman from Hudsonville, Michigan, was a first team All-MIAA selection as well. Vegter has notched five assists on the season and has been a key component in the Knights defensive success on the year
First Team All-MIAA
Niko Giantsopoulos
Giantsopoulos, a senior from Markham, Ontario, was named a first team selection for the third time in his career. He was named to the second team his freshman year at Adrian. He leads the nation in goals-against-average at .195 and has helped Calvin lead the nation with an 81% shutout percentage, with 17 shutouts on the year.
Stephan Hooker
Stephan Hooker is making his second-straight appearance on the All-MIAA first team this season. A junior from Hudsonville, Michigan, Hooker was named to the second team his freshman season while also being named the MIAA Newcomer of the Year. This season, Hooker has posted 11 goals while also adding six assists. Of his 11 goals, three were game winners for the Knights.
Isky Van Doorne
A junior from Calgary, Alberta, Van Doorne is being recognized as an All-MIAA selection for the second time in his career, being named a second team selection last season. Van Doorne has recorded six goals and five assists for the Knights this season.
Taylor Pruis
Pruis is a junior from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Pruis is being honored on the All-MIAA first team for a third-straight year. The Calvin forward tallied eight goals and 11 assists on the season. Pruis has netted the game winning goal four times this season. In the final week of the season, Pruis was named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week.
Second Team All-MIAA
David Waterson
A junior from DeWitt, Michigan, Waterson started all 21 games for the Knights this season and played a vital role in the Knights defense. He has tallied an assist in the MIAA Tournament against Hope.
Mitch Stark
A native of South Lyon, Michigan, sophomore Mitch Stark was named a second team All-MIAA selection. Last year, Stark was named MIAA Newcomer of the year. Stark tallied goals and led the team with assists at 13.
Jon Flippini
A senior from Holland, Michigan, Flippini has been an important player in the stellar Knights defense this season. He recorded an assist against Olivet on October 20th.
Jay Noyola
A junior from East Lansing, Michigan, has played a big role in the Calvin defense that only allowed two goals in league play. Noyola had an assist at Albion on October 6th.

The Calvin women's soccer team has moved into the NSCAA Division III Top 25 poll for the first time during the 2015 season. The Knights are ranked 20th in this week's poll which can be found online at: http://www.nscaa.com/rankings/4974/NCAADivisionIII/women/National/Poll9

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams continue to move up in the Collegeswimming.com Division III Top 25 polls.

In this week's poll, the Calvin men are ranked 15th while the Calvin women are ranked 14th.

VOLLEYBALL

The Calvin women's volleyball team will enter NCAA III Tournament play ranked fourth by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll. The Knights remain in the No. 4 spot for the fourth consecutive week.

CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK AND FIELD

2014 Calvin College graduate Nicole Michmerhuizen achieved another milestone this past Saturday, winning the women's portion of the Indianapolis Marathon. A native of Holland and a graduate of Holland Christian High School, Michmerhuizen won the marathon in a time of 2:41.38.

Now a graduate student at the University of Michigan, Michmerhuizen qualified for the upcoming U.S. Olympic Marathon trials with her time which was a personal-best by eight minutes.

The U.S. Olympic Marathon trials are scheduled to be held February 13 in Los Angeles, California.

In the men's marathon race in Indianapolis, Calvin graduates Jon Gries and Paul Petersen finished third and fourth respectively with Gries finishing third in 2:22.26 while Petersen was fourth in a time of 2:24.31.

Earlier this year, Petersen posted a qualifying time for the U.S. Olympic Marathon trials at the Grandma's Marathon on June 21.
