Women's Volleyball/Soccer to Host Regional Tournaments/Men's Soccer to Travel to Ohio Wesleyan;
Calvin Athletes Receive Weekly Honors From MIAA

VOLLEYBALL

Calvin has been selected to host an eight-team NCAA III regional November 12-14. Calvin will host a regional that will include teams from Cornell College (Ia.), Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Elmhurst (Il.), Illinois Wesleyan, Dominican (Il.), Carthage (Wisc.) and UW-LaCrosse.
Calvin will be making its 25th appearance in the NCAA III Tournament including its 12th straight under current head coach Amber Warners.

The Knights are 43-24 all-time in NCAA III Tournament play including 30-9 under head coach Amber Warners.

The Knights have captured two national championships (2010 and 2013) and finished as national runners-up twice (1986 and 2012).

Illinois Wesleyan (22-9) will face Dominican (22-9) at 12:30 p.m. in the opening match of the tournament with Carthage (31-7) set to face Wisconsin-Lacrosse (20-9) at 3 p.m. Wisconsin-Stevens Point (26-8) will face Elmhurst (24-11) at 5:30 p.m. with Calvin (28-3) slated to meet Cornell College of Iowa (15-14) in the final match of Thursday's competition at 8 p.m.

The winner of the Illinois Wesleyan/Dominican match will meet the winner of the Carthage/Wisconsin-Lacrosse match on Friday at 5 p.m. with the Wisconsin-Stevens Point/Elmhurst winner meeting the Calvin/Cornell winner at 7:30 p.m.

Friday's winners will then meet in the regional final Saturday night at 7 p.m.

The competition will take place inside Calvin's Van Noord Arena.

Tickets will be $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students and senior citizens.

MORE VOLLEYBALL

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Two of the Calvin freshmen swept the MIAA weekly honors this week. Anna Kamp was named the Player of the Week by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and Keilahna Castillo was named the Specialty Player of the Week. The two helped propel Calvin to two wins in the MIAA Tournament over Trine and No. 10 Hope.
Kamp, a freshman from Orland Park, Illinois, earned Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career. Last week, Kamp was named the Freshman of the Year by the league. Kamp recorded four kills on six attempts against Trine on Friday night, she added three total blocks in the win. On Saturday, Kamp finished with 10 kills, three digs and two total blocks.
Castillo, a freshman from Grandville, Michigan, also earned her first Specialty Player of the Week honor this week. Castillo had 16 digs on Friday, with two assists and an ace. Against Hope, Castillo tallied 13 digs on the evening, as well as three assists and an ace.
The Knights play on Thursday evening as they host Cornell College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Van Noord Arena.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Calvin women's soccer team will host a four-team NCAA III regional tournament this Friday and Saturday. Calvin will host teams from Milwaukee School of Engineering, DePauw and Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Calvin (18-2-2) will host Milwaukee School of Engineering (15-6-0) in the opening first round game on Friday at 11 a.m. with UW-Oshkosh (14-4-2) facing DePauw (12-6-1) at 1:30 p.m. in the second first round game. Friday's winners will then play on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the regional final. All games will be played at Calvin's Zuidema Field.

Ticket prices will be $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for students, senior citizens and children ages 3-12 and children ages two and under admitted free.

The Calvin women's soccer team is making its 11th appearance in the NCAA III Tournament and is 9-6-5 all-time in NCAA III Tournament play. The Knights are making their ninth appearance under current head coach Mark Recker and have produced an 8-4-5 record in the tournament under his watch. Under Recker, the Knights have advanced to the national quarterfinals twice, doing so in 2006 and 2009.

MORE WOMEN'S SOCCER

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - On Monday, Calvin midfielder Paige Capel has earned the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Award for a second-straight week. Senior defender Jaimie Verbal was named the Defensive Player of the Week as well by the conference.
Verbal, a senior from Whitmore Lake, Michigan, earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time this year. Verbal helped key a Calvin backline last week that posted two consecutive shutout victories as the Knights claimed the MIAA conference tournament. The Knights defeated Olivet 2-0 and Hope 3-0 to win the MIAA Tournament and claim the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. Verbal is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time in her career.
Capel, a senior from Hudsonville, Michigan, clinched Offensive Player of the Week honors. Capel badgered the Olivet and Hope goalies with four goals during the MIAA Tournament. Capel scored two goals in both matches of the MIAA Tournament and an assist in the MIAA Championship match. She posted five shot attempts including two shots on goal against the Comets. She added five more shots including three of shots on goal in a 3-0 victory over Hope on Saturday. It marks the third Player of the Week honor this season after claiming the award on Sept. 28 and Nov. 2.
Calvin will host Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at 3 p.m. at Zuidema Field.

MEN'S SOCCER

The Calvin men's soccer team will travel to a four-team NCAA III regional tournament this Friday and Saturday hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. Calvin (20-0-1) will face Mount Aloysius (12-6-2) in a first round game Friday night at 7:30 p.m. (EST) with host Ohio Wesleyan (15-4-2) facing the Milwaukee School of Engineering (14-4-1) in the opening first round game at 5 p.m.

Teams advancing out of the Friday first round games will meet in the regional final Saturday at 5 p.m. (EST). All games will be played at Ohio Wesleyan's Roy Rike Field.

Calvin is making its 14th trip to the NCAA III Tournament including its eighth in the last nine years. Calvin is 12-12-8 all-time in the NCAA III Tournament. Calvin is 6-2 in penalty kick shootouts in the NCAA III Tournament. The Knights have advanced to the sectional round of the NCAA III Tournament five times, to the national semifinals twice and to the national championship final twice, losing in the final in both 2009 and 2011. Calvin is making its third trip to the NCAA III Tournament under current head coach Ryan Souders.

The Knights advanced to the NCAA III Tournament by winning the MIAA Tournament last week, defeating Hope 3-0 in the semifinals and Alma 3-0 in the championship final.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Forward Taylor Pruis and Knight goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos swept the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors on Monday for matches through Nov. 8.
Pruis, a senior from Grand Rapids, Michigan, had a goal and an assist in the win Wednesday over rival Hope. Pruis recorded a goal and assist in the MIAA Championship match against Alma on Saturday. He has eight goals and 11 assists on the year. It's the first time this season and third time in his career that Pruis has been named Player of the Week.
Giantsopoulos, a senior from Markham, Ontario, held opponents scoreless in a pair of clean sheets last week for the No. 1 Knights at the MIAA Tournament. A graduate of St. Augustine Catholic High School, he came up with a save vs. Hope in a 3-0 victory on Wednesday. In the MIAA Finals, Giantsopoulos posted his 16th shutout of the season with three saves. It marks his third Player of the Week honor this season after receiving recognition on Sept. 8 and Oct. 12. Giantsopoulos is currently ranked first nationally in goals-against-average with a season GAA of 0.195.
The Knights start NCAA Tournament play on Friday as they will face Mount Aloysius at 7:30 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Junior Hillary Glover was named the Diver of the Week by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) on Monday. Glover is being honored as Diver of the Week for the first time in her career.
Glover, a junior from Wyoming, Michigan. Helped Calvin take a first-place finish over Albion, Carthage and Ohio Northern this weekend, with two career-best scores. Glover took third on the 1-meter platform at 404.62. On Saturday, Glover finished in second place at 415.87 on the 3-meter boards. Both scores qualify her for NCAA Zones.
Glover and the Knights return to action on Saturday as they host the Thunder of Wheaton College at 1 p.m. at the Venema Aquatic Center.
