Calvin Track and Field Teams Receive USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

TRACK AND FIELD

The Calvin men's and women's track and field teams have once again received the All-Academic Team Award from the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association. The Calvin women's team has now received the award 14 consecutive years while the Calvin men's team has received the honor seven straight years.
In order to receive the award, a team needed to have posted a minimum 3.10 grade point average or better. The Calvin women's team posted a 3.37 grade point average while the Calvin men's team recorded a 3.27 grade point average.
In addition, four members of the Calvin men's track and field team and four members of the Calvin women's track and field team have received individual USTFCCCA All-Academic status.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
The four members of the Calvin men's track and field team to receive USTFCCCA individual honors include seniors Steven Haagsma (Wyoming, Mich./Calvin Christian HS), Erik Holstege (Keswick, VA/Monticello HS and Ben de Waal Malefyt (Haledon, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) and freshman Ethan Valentine (Mason, OH/William Mason HS).
The four members of the Calvin women's track and field team to receive the USTFCCCA individual award include seniors Sarah Danner (Watkins Glen, NY/Charles Dickerson HS), Kate Ardinger (Elmhurst, IL/Timothy Christian HS) and Kimby Penning (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and sophomore Lauren Strohbehn (Stillwater, MN/St. Croix Preparatory HS).
Both Calvin track and field teams were led by sixth-year head coach Bret Otte. His men's and women's teams have received the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award all six years during his tenure.
