Track and Field Teams Compete at Olivet Nazarene
MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
BOURBONNAIS, IL - The Calvin men's indoor track and field team took fourth at the NAIA/NCAA Challenge hosted by Olivet Nazarene University on Saturday with a total of 69.5 points. The competition was a two-day meet but Calvin took part on only the second day of competition, thereby lowering its final point total.
Senior Erik Holstege had a strong afternoon, winning the 60 meter hurdles (8.42) and placing fourth in the long jump (22-3).
In the 5,000 meter run, Calvin went 1-2-4-6 with sophomore Zac Nowicki winning in a time of 15:30.56. Sophomoe Nate Van Haitsma was second (15:32.50), junior Jonathan Gingrinch fourth (15:42.47) and freshman Mark DeJong sixth (15:53.14).
In the 3,000 meter run, senior Steven Haagsma took third with a time of 8:51.21. In the mile run, senior Stephen Tubergen took sixth in a time of 4:34.75.
In the 200 meters, junior Joel Brouwer was seventh (23.53) while junior Lucas Wolters claimed a second place finish in the pole vault (14-11). In the weight throw, junior David Dadzie added a seventh place finish (42-4).
Calvin's distance medley relay team of Tubergen, Brouwer, freshman Ethan Valentine and Haagsma took fourth in 10:49.93.
Calvin is back in action on February 6 when it competes at the Furniture City Classic at Aquinas College.
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

The competition was a two-day meet but Calvin took part on only the second day of competition, thereby lowering its final point total.
Calvin had several standout performances on Saturday.
In the mile run, junior McKenzie Diemer took first place with a time of 5:21.74 while sophomore Lora Huizingh was third (5:27.30).
Freshman Jenna Dyksen captured the 60 meter hurdles (9.46) while sophmore Bethany Van Eck was seventh (10.06).
In the 5,000 meter run, Calvin went 2-4-6 with senior Sarah Danner taking second (18:13.24), senior Kimby Penning fourth (18:47.06) and freshman Kate McLain sixth (19:36.05).
In the 800 meters, freshman Caroline Boss took eighth (2:26.06). Senior Kelley Tuinenga was fourth in the high jump (5-1) while Dyksen was eighth in the long jump (16-7).
In the triple jump sophomore Carissa Weiss was sixth (33-3).
Freshman Bethany Love had a strong day, placing fourth in the shot put (38-11.
In the 4x400 meter relay, Boss, freshman Marissa McGahan, Tuinenga and Dyksen took fourth in a time of 4:13.32.
Calvin is back in action on February 6 when it competes at the Furniture City Classic at Aquinas College.
