Men's Golf Maintains Hold of Third Place in MIAA Overall Standings

WEST OLIVE - The Calvin men's golf team maintained a firm grip on third place in the overall MIAA standings on Thursday, placing third at the seventh and second-to-last MIAA Jamboree of the 2014 fall season. Thursday's MIAA Jamboree was hosted by Hope at the Wuskowhan Player's Club. The Knights took third with a team score of 302 strokes with Trine taking first at 292 and Hope second at 293.
Heading into the final MIAA Jamboree next Tuesday at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek, Calvin is 33 strokes ahead of fourth place Adrian and 22 strokes behind second place Trine. Hope holds the overall MIAA lead and is 10 strokes ahead of Trine.
In Thursday's MIAA Jamboree, Calvin junior Justin Crow (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) continued his stellar play down the final stretch of the season as he earned a threw-way share of medalist honors with a round of 70.
Freshman John Van Noord (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was next for Calvin with a 76 while junior Jason Zeigler (Mount Gilead, OH/Gilead Christian HS) had a 77.
Freshman Ben VanScoyk (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a 79 and senior James Van Noord (Troy/Troy Athens HS) an 80.
John Van Noord continues to hold on to a share of the overall MIAA lead in the conference individual standings. With one league tournament left to play, he holds a season average of 73.4 strokes-per-round and is tied with Hope's Winston Munch for the league lead.
The top four teams at the conclusion of the MIAA fall season will advance to the MIAA's four-team NCAA qualifying spring qualifying tournament next April.
