NOTRE DAME, IN - After a nip-and-tuck first set, the Calvin women's volleyball team picked up steam and came away with a 26-24, 25-19, 25-12 victory at Saint Mary's Tuesday evening.

Now ranked fourth nationally, Calvin (12-2 overall, 4-0 MIAA) hit .323 as a team in the victory but had to fight to put the Belles (3-6 overall, 2-3 MIAA) in set one.

Calvin held a 20-15 lead in set one but Saint Mary's rallied to take a 24-23 lead. Calvin answered with three consecutive points capped off by a service ace from junior Maggie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) to close out the set.

In set two, Calvin picked up the pace by hitting .314 as a team. Calvin scored the first 11 points of the set all under the service of senior Elise Biesboer (Elmhurst, IL/Timothy Christian HS) with Biesboer collecting a pair of service aces in the early run.

Saint Mary's later crept to within 23-19 but a solo block by Maggie Kamp and a subsequent block assist by Kamp and sophomore Laura Danhoff (Willard, OH/Willard HS) closed out the set.

Calvin then hit .409 in set three and never looked back in clinching the victory.

Maggie Kamp had 13 kills and six digs while Danhoff had nine kills, one block solo and six block assists. Biesboer had 12 digs, four assists and four service aces. Freshman setter Jenna Lodewyk (Villa Park, IL/Timothy Christian HS) added 31 assists and five digs while senior Stacey Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) chipped in with three block assists.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Saint Mary's 1, Calvin 0

The Calvin women's soccer team played its final contest of a four game home stand on Tuesday afternoon, welcoming the Belles of Saint Mary's to Zuidema Field.

For the third game in a row, it was the visiting team coming out on top by a score of 1-0, as a single goal by Saint Mary's in the second half proved to be the difference.

In the first half, Calvin saw the majority of the possession while outshooting the Belles 8-2.

Calvin did not have any strong chances on frame, however, forcing the Saint Mary's keeper into just two routine saves in the first half.

At the break, the Knights also held a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

After halftime, Calvin saw its best opportunity for a goal come in the 52nd minute. A cross was put into the center of the box by a Knights attacker which found the foot of sophomore Carly Veenstra. Veenstra's ensuing shot was saved the Belles goalie, and the game remained scoreless.

In the 66th minute, the goal drought came to an end. Saint Mary's forward Erin Mishu was the recipient of a well-placed cross which she headed into the back of the net which gave the Belles a one goal advantage.

In the remaining 24 minutes, Calvin could not put any shots on goal, and the Knights fell to Saint Mary's by the score of 1-0.

Calvin outshot the Belles 11-6 for the game while also holding a 4-1 edge in corner kicks for the ball game.

The loss drops the Knights to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Saint Mary's improves to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the league.

On Saturday, Calvin travels to Albion to continue its MIAA schedule. Kickoff is slated for noon against the Britons.
