Calvin Fall Sports Athletes Receive MIAA Weekly Honors

MEN'S SOCCER
FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin forward Travis Vegter its Offensive Player of the Week in men's soccer for games played through Sept. 14. Vegter, a senior from Hudsonville (Unity Christian HS), scored three goals and assisted on two others in leading Calvin to a 7-1 nonconference victory over Cleary.
Vegter, who was last year's MIAA Most Valuable Player, is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time this season and fifth time in his career. Calvin is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Alma for a 4 p.m. contest.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin's Cassie Vince as its Women's Runner of the Week in cross country for meets through Sept. 14. Vince, a sophomore from Amherst, Ohio (Amherst HS), led from start to finish as she took first place in leading the host Knights to the championship of the Knight Invite meet.
She finished 20 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor with a time of 17:50 over the soggy 5-kilometer course at the Gainey Athletic Complex. Vince is being honored as Runner of the Week for the second time in her career.
