Women's Soccer Players Receive All-MIAA Honors;
Women's Soccer Ranked in National Polls;
Men's Soccer Cracks NSCAA Division III Top 25 Poll
Volleyball Regains Top Spot in Division III Top 25 Poll

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Seven members of the MIAA champion Calvin women's soccer team have received All-MIAA honors. Named to the All-MIAA first team from Calvin are senior midfielder Danielle Carter and sophomore forward Paige Capel and sophomore midfielder Taylor Ten Harmsel. Named to the All-MIAA second team from Calvin are senior goalkeeper Ashton Hearn, senior midfielder Heidi Scholten and sophomore defenders Sidney Kinney and Kelsey Hiegel.

All-MIAA First Team

Paige Capel - A sophomore from Hudsonville and graduate of Unity Christian High School, Capel is being honored as All-MIAA for the first time in her career. Capel led the Knights in scoring this season with 14 goals, five of which were game-winners, and six assists for 34 points. Capel was named MIAA player of the week once this season. Capel is the third member of her family to be named All-MIAA for Calvin as her sister, Jill, earned the honor in soccer and her father, Barry, in basketball.

Danielle Carter - Carter, a senior from DeWitt and a DeWitt High School graduate, is being awarded All-MIAA First Team honors for the second straight season. Carter tallied four goals and two assists on the season for ten points for the Knights, and was recently named the MIAA player of the week for her play during the MIAA Tournament. A four year member of the varsity squad, Carter has started all 84 games in her collegiate career. Carter was named to the Raider Invitational All-Tournament team earlier this season.

Taylor TenHarmsel - A sophomore native of Holland and graduate of Holland Christian High School, TenHarmsel is being named All-MIAA First Team for the second time in her career. TenHarmsel was second on the Knights with 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points and sixth in the MIAA with 19 points. TenHarmsel was named to the Raider Invitational All-Tournament team at the beginning of the season.

All-MIAA Second Team

Ashton Hearn - A senior graduate of Port Huron Northern High School and native of Port Huron, Hearn has totaled 32 shutouts in goal as a Knight. Over her four year career, Hearn has a goal-against-average of 0.72. A speech pathology major, Hearn was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 Team earlier this fall. Hearn was also named to the Raider Invitational All-Tournament team earlier this year.

Heidi Scholten - A senior from Hudsonville and graduate of Unity Christian High School, Scholten was third on Calvin in points with 24, scoring seven goals while adding a team-leading 10 assists. Scholten led the MIAA with eight assists in conference play.

Kelsey Heigel - Heigel is a sophomore defender out of Mundelein, Illinois, and a graduate of Mundelein High School. The Calvin defense allowed only 14 goals in 22 games this season, posting 12 shutouts. Heigel was named the Raider Invitational Most Outstanding Defensive Player earlier this season.

Sydney Kinney - A graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School and native of Ada, sophomore Sydney Kinney was also a key member of the stingy Calvin defense. Kinney was also important for the Knights on set pieces, taking most of Calvin's corner kicks. Kinney was second on Calvin's squad with seven assists while also adding a goal on the season.

Calvin captured the MIAA regular season title with a 13-2-1 conference record this fall and later won the MIAA Tournament title with tournament wins over Adrian and Hope. Calvin will compete in the NCAA III Tournament this Friday in a first round game against Aurora University at 8:30 p.m. in St. Louis, Missouri.

MORE WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Calvin women's soccer team is ranked in two national polls heading into NCAA III Tournament play. The Knights are ranked 19th in the National Soccer Coaches Association Division III Top 25 poll released earlier today and ranked 17th in the D3soccer.com Top 25 poll, also released earlier today.

MEN'S SOCCER

The season has come to a close for the Calvin men's soccer team but the Knights have still cracked the latest set of NSCAA Division III Top 25 rankings. The Knights are ranked 25th in the latest poll, released earlier this afternoon.

Calvin finished the year with an overall record of 14-5-1, finishing the year with an unbeaten streak of eight games. Calvin opened the year with an 0-3-0 record but proceeded to win 14 of its next 17 games, losing only two in that stretch.

Calvin captured the MIAA regular season title with a 12-2-0 conference record, marking the seventh consecutive MIAA regular season crown for the Knights. The streak is the longest championship streak in MIAA men's soccer history.

Calvin advanced to the MIAA Tournament finals, finishing in a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Hope. The Flying Dutchmen gained the automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament however by winning a penalty kick shootout 5-4.

VOLLEYBALL

The Calvin women's volleyball team has regained the number-one spot in the AVCA Division III Top 25 rankings.

After three weeks in the number-two spot, Calvin has leap-frogged rival Hope for the top spot. Calvin received 47 of a possible 48 first place votes with Hope receiving the other first place tally. Hope is ranked second in this week's poll. This past Saturday, the two rivals met for the third time this year with Calvin pulling out a come-from-behind five-set win in the MIAA Tournament finals at Calvin's Van Noord Arena. During the regular season, Calvin defeated Hope in Grand Rapids while Hope defeated Calvin in Holland.

Calvin will host an eight-team NCAA III Regional tournament this weekend and will face Penn State-Behrend Thursday night in an 8 p.m. first round match.

Calvin will be one of four nationally-ranked teams in the regional field as 10th-ranked Mount Union, 12th-ranked Wittenberg and 20th-ranked Chicago are all part of the field.
