Volleyball to Host NCAA III Regional Tournament;
Women's Soccer Headed to St. Louis Regional Tournament Play;
Calvin Fall Sports Athletes Receive MIAA Player of the Week Honors;
Men's Swimming and Diving Ranked 15th in National Poll

VOLLEYBALL

The Calvin women's volleyball team will host an eight-team NCAA III regional Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Van Noord Arena.

Calvin (29-1) will face Penn State-Behrend (22-8) in a first round match on Thursday at 8 p.m. Other first round matches will see Wittenberg (23-8) going up against Bluffton (16-18) at 12:30 p.m., Chicago (26-10) going up against Buffalo State (25-9) at 3 p.m. and Mount Union (30-4) going up against Carnegie-Mellon (25-9) at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday's winners will play in regional semifinals on Friday with the regional final set for Saturday.

On Friday, the Wittenberg/Bluffton winner will play the Chicago/Buffalo State winner at 4:30 p.m. The Mount Union/Carnegie-Mellon winner will face the Calvin/Penn State-Behrend winner at 7 p.m.

Friday's winners will then meet in the regional final Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Calvin is making its 10th consecutive trip to the NCAA III Tournament and its 23rd appearance overall. The Knights are 33-23 all-time in NCAA III Tournament play. A year ago, Calvin reached the NCAA III finals before falling to St. Thomas in a five-set match. In 2010, Calvin claimed the NCAA III title, defeating Emory University in four sets in the title tilt.

MORE VOLLEYBALL

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin right side hitter Stacey Kamp its Position Player of the Week and Calvin libero Kristen Zietse its Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for matches played through November 9.

Kamp, a junior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), had a .474 hitting percentage during the MIAA tournament in leading the Knights to victories over Saint Mary's and Hope. She had seven kills for a team-best .500 attack percentage and added six assists in the Knights' five-set win over the Flying Dutch in the tournament championship match.

Kamp is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Zietse, a senior from Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids Christian HS), had 32 digs and only one error in 40 serve reception chances during the MIAA tournament as Calvin defeated Saint Mary's and Hope to win the tournament.

She led the Knights with a team-high 20 digs in the tournament championship match against Hope.

Zietse is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Calvin women's soccer team will travel to St. Louis, Missouri, for a four-team NCAA III regional hosted by Washington University of St. Louis. Calvin (18-2-2) will face Aurora (18-2-0) in a first round game on Friday at 8:30 p.m. (EST).

Washington U. ((17-1-0) will face St. Norbert (15-3-2) in the other Friday first round game at 6 p.m. (EST).

The Calvin-Aurora game will feature a rematch of last year's first round game won by Calvin 1-0 in overtime.

Calvin will be making its 10th trip to the NCAA III Tournament including its eighth in the last nine years. Calvin is 8-5-5 all-time in NCAA III Tournament play.

MORE WOMEN'S SOCCER

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin midfielder Danielle Carter and Calvin defender Jaimie Verbal its Players of the Week in women's soccer for games played through November 9.

Offensive Player of the Week
Carter, a senior from DeWitt (DeWitt HS), provided solid ball distribution while also winning balls in the midfield with a high level of consistency as she led Calvin to three consecutive wins for the week to claim both the MIAA championship and the conference tournament. She assisted on an crucial insurance goal in Saturday's 2-0 win over Hope in the MIAA tournament championship game. Carter is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
Defensive Player of the Week
Verbal, a sophomore from Whitmore Lake (Dexter HS), helped key a Calvin backline last week that posted three consecutive shutout victories as the Knights claimed the both the MIAA championship and the conference tournament.

The Knights shut out Hope 1-0 in a showdown game for the MIAA championship, then defeated Adrian 3-0 and Hope 2-0 to win the MIAA tournament and claim the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.

Verbal is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

The Calvin men's swimming and diving team remains ranked in the top 25 of the most recent Collegeswimming.com national poll.
Fresh off a dual meet win over Wheaton this past Saturday, the Calvin men are ranked 15th in the Collegeswimming.com Top 25 poll.
