Men's Golf Moves Into Tie For First Place in MIAA Overall Standings;
Taylor Pruis Named MIAA Men's Soccer (Offense) Player of Week;
Olympic Swimmers Visit Calvin Swimming and Diving Practice

MEN'S GOLF

KALAMAZOO - With three league competitions left in the MIAA men's fall golf season, Calvin has moved into a tie for first place in the overall standings.

Calvin made up five strokes on league-leading Hope Monday afternoon at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Kalamazoo at the Kalamazoo Country Club. Calvin finished second at the MIAA Jamboree with a team score of 307 strokes, six strokes behind first place Trine and five strokes ahead of Hope which took fourth at Monday's tournament.

Calvin and Hope now share first place with overall team totals of 1,538 strokes. Adrian sits 10 strokes back of the Knights and Flying Dutchmen in the overall standings while Trine is in fourth, 13 strokes out of first place.

Trine will host the next MIAA Jamboree which is scheduled to take place on Saturday at Trine's Zollner Golf Club at 1 p.m. Hope will host the second-to-last MIAA Jamboree on October 3 with Calvin scheduled to host the final MIAA Jamboree on October 7.

In Monday's competition, Calvin had three golfers fire sub-80 round led by junior James Van Noord (Troy/Troy Athens HS) who carded a score of 73 that was good for third place individually. Van Noord remains in first place in the overall MIAA individual standings.

Calvin's next best score came from senior Mark Allen (Oconomowoc, WI/Lake Country Lutheran HS) with a 74 while senior Jake Hoogstrate (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a 77. Rounding out Calvin's finishers were freshman Brad Smith (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick HS) with an 83 and sophomore Justin Crow (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with an 87.

Nolan Eli of Trine and Will Reichle of Kalamazoo shared medalist honors on Monday with rounds of 72.

MEN'S SOCCER

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin midfielder Taylor Pruis its Offensive Player of the Week in men's soccer for games played through Sept. 22.

Pruis, a sophomore from Grand Rapids (GR Christian HS), scored two goals and assisted on two more in leading the Knights to a 5-1 victory over Hope in their MIAA opener. He also had a pair of assists in a 5-0 non-conference win over Bluffton, Ohio. Pruis is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Calvin is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Trine for a 4 p.m. contest.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams were visited by a pair of U.S. Olympic swimmers this past Friday.
