Calvin Fall Sports Athletes Receive Weekly Honors from MIAA

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Alma 3, Calvin 2

ALMA - Finding a way to win at Alma has been a challenge for the Calvin women's soccer team. That challenge continued on Monday as the Knights dropped their MIAA opener, falling 3-2 at Alma. The Knights have not won at Alma since 2010. Monday's loss also snapped Calvin's three-game win streak.

The Scots (1-2 overall, 0-1 MIAA) roared out to a 2-0 halftime lead and added a third goal early in the second half to build a 3-0 advantage.

Calvin (3-0 overall, 0-1 MIAA) rallied with two goals to cut the deficit to one. Senior Heidi Scholten (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) scored both of Calvin's goals, netting an unassisted tally in the 68th minute and scoring again in the 87th minute, this time on a feed from sophomore Taylor Ten Harmsel (Holland/Holland Christian HS).

Calvin was unable to muster a shot in the final three minutes of play however as the host Scots held on for the win.

Alma held a 13-10 shots at goal advantage including 7-4 in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Ashton Hearn (Port Huron/Port Huron Northern HS) had six saves for Calvin in defeat.

Calvin will try to get back on the winning track on Thursday, as it travels to Trine for a 4 p.m. match.
